This is a report of an explorer cat named Jack. Day 1 As soon as I stepped past the fence that kept the public off the mountain I noticed how completely silent it was. No birds in the trees no bugs flying in the air. It was strange, especially because this was a thriving forest, if there where no living things, how was the forest doing so well? Other than the silence the day was pleasant and warm and I made good progress. Day 2 The silence is getting annoying and today is a little hotter than yesterday so I made a little less progress. Later a started to notice burn marks on some of the trees and bushes. It was strange as there were no reported wildfires. As I was setting up camp for the night I heard a low almost inaudible growl, the first sound I had heard in the forest. I was on edge after that. Day 3 I saw something in the forest today! As I set out for the day I saw a large, dark shape run away into the forest. Close to midday The forest became very thin and the trunks of the surviving trees where scorched. The silence has become deafening. Day 5 Sorry for the skipped day I was busy running for my life. Yesterday I made it to the top of the mountain. On the very top point of the mountain their was a clearing and in that clearing there was a Catlike creature of massive size. It was at least three times as big as me and I’m not a small cat. As I was observing from the tree line when the thing looked directly at me and growled. Smoke started to rise off of the spines on its back and the tip of its tail. It opened its mouth and shot ash and smoke and fire at me. I ran, that day I ran farther than I ever had and have since. I ran halfway down the mountain before I stoped. Maybe someone braver than me will be able to face that beast, but until then I leave this warning: don’t look for secrets that are never meant to be unraveled. Notes I know this is more about Jack than Vulcan but I wanted to show how mysterious the mountain he lives on is. And how little anyone knows about it, Jack only scratched the surface of the secrets of the mountain.
