Click the stage Notes on the species: V. Pentadactylus was based of eastern dragons, kangaroos and foxes (fennec and arctic), with a little pangolin (think mammals with scales) They live in arid environments like deserts and have large ears to release heat. Their pale fur reflects the sunlight, and their legs, tails, and underbellies are bare in order to stay cool. They are often referred to as the ‘Qilin,' and they are revered and respected by many cultures. V. Pentadactylus have a habit of licking their fur and fanning themselves with their tail brushes to cool the saliva when they overheat, and appear to 'glide' over the sand when they move. In reality, they leap over the dunes, using their tail for balance, all the while barely touching the hot sand. This results in less contact with and a lower chance of being burned by the ground. V. Carnolophus was based off of snow leopards, arctic foxes, lynxes and polar bears. They are close relatives of V. Pentadactylus, and live in the arctic regions of their fictional continent. They have smaller ears to retain heat, and their tail brushes are used to prevent their noses and barbels from freezing while they sleep. They spend hours a day grooming their coats. The species is incredibly rare, partially due to its camouflage, but also because they are hunted for their luxurious coats and ivory spikes. The apex predators of their environments, they face little challenge from other native species. Certain sub-species possess antlers, and the males use these to fight during mating seasons. V. Carnolophus/Pentadactylus are members of the order ‘Draconea,’ or the ‘true dragons.’ Both belong to the family Steneoavra, or the ‘bare tailed dragons.’ I’m starting a new genus based on catfish and foxes soon.
A couple of original species of mine. I have about a dozen planned, I’ll update as I finish them. Yes, dragons are mammals in my universe. List of species I have yet to post: - Eoarchaeus Nyctovis - Eoarchaeus Thallasoleo
