Now I'm in exile, seein' you out — Once upon a time ... Chang'e and her husband Houyi lived together peacefully in heaven, and they were happy. But peace would not last. When the Jade Emperor's sons turned into ten huge, luminous suns surrounding and scorching the earth, he asked Houyi to help him protect his land. Houyi shot down nine of them, leaving just one behind to light the lives of the humans down below. But the emperor was furious over the deaths of his sons, and he punished Houyi and Chang'e by making them live as mortals on earth, away from heaven. Wanting to ease some of his wife's grief, Houyi travelled to meet the Queen Mother of the West. At his request, she gave him a vial of her elixir, and told him that to return to heaven, the two need to drink it together. However, upon arriving home, Houyi was immediately called away on an urgent business. He stores the vial in a case and warned Chang'e to wait for him. But Chang'e, lonely and missing heaven, did not heed his words. She drank the entire vial of elixir on her own - and it cast her up, up, and she kept on floating, floating, floating, past the clouds, all the way to the moon. And she would never see her husband, or feel the warmth of love again. ...
