•---------• Daphine Banks was a normal student of Cherry Grove High. A very typical, average, normal student. Okay, maybe not so average, as she has all A's, has a high GPA, and scores fantastically on tests. Knowing all this, you may think, 'Oh, Daphine is probably very popular. Everyone might want to be friends with her.' Of course, that may not be the case, and you might not be thinking about that, though let's just pretend that you were thinking of this. Well, to answer your thoughts, yes, Daphine is quite popular. But only for her grades. Daphine is frowned upon by her fellow classmates. Know-it-all, nerd, try-hard, and so many more of these names are used to refer to this "average, normal" student. So much pain. So much suffering. So many... expectations. Daphine should not get a B in anything. Daphine should not get less than 99% on any test. Daphine should... not be a failure. The only way this poor girl can ever escape from all of this is through books. Naturally, she chooses fantasy books. Isn't it wonderful to read stories about characters who live the most graceful lives and always receive a happy ending, even when you know that never happens in real life? •---------• Daphine was looking through CGHS's library catalog in the library to look for her favorite fantasy novel: "To Strike The Heart," which in her opinion had the perfect blend of fantasy and romance. She grinned when she discovered the location of said book and shut down the computer. She grabbed her belongings and rushed over to the aisle where she snatched the book from the shelf and sprinted to the counter, getting it checked out and receiving strange looks from the librarian, John. Daphine looked at the book cover in longing. "I wish that my life could be like the characters in this book," she whispered to herself, smiling. She was so excited to read the book that she didn't notice that she arrived at a road. And it just so happened that it was a busy day. It was too late when Daphine finally looked up, only to see the blinding headlights of the soft blue car and hear the horn blaring repetitively before everything flashed in red then black. Maybe it was fate that brought upon her end. Maybe it was an accident. Maybe it was a cold-blooded murder, but that seemed quite unlikely. There was something that Daphine did know, and it was that she never should have made that wish. •---------• prev. // n/a next. // n/a
