I’m Gyuno Yamarashi. In this world, about 80% of people have a meta ability called a Quirk. Do the math. Heroes and villains have huge battles almost daily. Most high schools now offer a “Hero Course” for those of us with exponential abilities. However, not all Quirks are created equal. My brother Haiyi’s Quirk, Sonic, lets him move his body at up to Mach 10, this got him into the top hero school in Japan, UA High. I got into UA as well, but for the support course where we design items to complement hero’s Quirks. My Quirk is called Lactic Sweat, I sweat an explosive acid, but I have no control over it. Because of this, I only got into UA’s support course after passing the entrance exam, while my brother got into the hero course on recommendations. The first year was pretty basic, although after the sports festival, which is broadcast around the country, I transferred to my brother’s class. My brother was obviously annoyed. “Are you going to stare at the wall all day? I have places to go to, people to see. At least they actually know what they're doing with their life…” “Haiyi, be nice to your brother. He can’t help your overwhelming speed” “Fine, but if you take another minute, I’m leaving without you, Gyuno.” I sighed as he stalked into the kitchen. With a huff, I packed up my current project. A brace to keep him safe at higher speed. Countless times had I thought of smashing it, of grinding it down to dust, but common sense took over once more. Yes, it was unjust, but who are you punishing if you do this? No one but yourself. You just have to grit your teeth and deal with it. He’s your brother, after all. Shouldn’t you be happy for him? Shouldn’t you support him no matter what? It was tempting. So very tempting to just stop. To just quit. Let him figure it out on his own. But it wouldn’t get me anywhere. And it was nearly finished. If I stopped now, so close to the finale, he’d say I was being selfish, say that he didn’t need my help. That I was nothing but a waste of space. I wish I didn't believe him. Wish I knew what he said was false. But wishes don’t get you anywhere and reality was a supersonic slap to the face. The real torture would be the hero training in the afternoon. How fun… The one good thing that came from the hero course was meeting Saiku. We met during the entrance exam. I teamed up with him to take down the 0-pointer. My explosions plus his superhumanity proved to make some great aerial attacks. However in the beginning, it wasn’t so cohesive. Jisehe was plowing through the 1-pointers, and Saiku was trailing behind, unable to find the bots on his own but taking some of the 2-pointers. I was mopping up the 2 & 3-pointers they left behind. Saiku was lagging behind, and screamed at Jisehe, “Hey Magnet Girl! Leave some for the rest of us!” She grinned back at him while breaking another bot, “Make me!” Suddenly, I had an idea that utilized both of them, “You two. Stop yelling. I have a plan.” Jisehe stopped abruptly, ”Oh?” Saiku looked back, amused, ”Spill it then” I looked to Jisehe, ”Musubetsu, right? You draw the robots, I’ll propel plain boy..” Saiku interjected, annoyed, ”It’s Saiku! Hijo Saiku! Don’t forget it!” I scoffed silently, ”Right then. I’ll propel Saiku up, and he can smash those bots down.” Saiku and Jisehe shouted ”Sounds like a plan!” in almost unison. So we did that. Took down the 0-pointer, and a bunch of 1 & 2 pointers too. Saiku got some rescue points for that. So did Jisehe. I failed the hero course just like I planned though, there’s no assist points. But I made sure I scored high enough for the support course, where they actually value brains over brawn.
