They removed the ability to view unshared projects. And hey, a quick view down my project list, and you’ll notice that I posted about this a while ago, and it got removed for a lame reason! Well I reposted it, removed again, reposted it, removed again! Hmmm… Well, Scratch, i think the time has come that somebody sits down in a chair and thinks about this a bit. Scratch is pretty (in)famous for banning people for random reasons. But removing useful features and then ignoring people’s suggestions is going a bit too far. The main problem with this is collaboration. Entire companies (figma, google, etc) have been hyper-focused on collaboration. The google interface for coding things is literally called “Google Colab” out of all the names it could be. And yet, scratch seems to be moving backwards while the rest of the world is moving forwards. How do you collaborate now? Share, remix, share, remix, share remix? Have your profile filled up with junk? For some people, this is okay, but for the rest of us, (me included), we like our profiles to be neat. There’s tons of stuff here to fix on scratch. I just switched to a different tab, and everything was blue for two seconds. I’m sure that’s not too hard of a bug fix. At least, a lot easier than removing the ability to view unshared projects. This reminds me of the old Chinese (true) story of a man and a king. The man helped the king in an extremely painful and violent way in a dire circumstance (in order to get the king something to eat because they were in the middle of a desert). The king was thankful and tried to give him a palace and some land. The man did not want a palace and some land. The king didn’t care what the man wanted, he just tried to help, blindly. The king insisted. The man said no. Finally, the king lit the man’s house on fire to get him out and to move him into the palace. Bad things happened to the man. Kind of extreme, but the lesson here is, if you want to help somebody, make sure what you’re doing is helpful. So, scratch, try to make sure your efforts are not in vain.
