TW: broken limb (idk if that would anger someone, but better safe than sorry) Sonic sat perched in a tree. He needed some time to himself as it was starting to get slightly chaotic between Storm's sass and shyness (how she was both sassy and shy was beyond Sonic) and Tails' insanity. He barely had any time to himself just to think, aside from when he was running, but Sonic liked to just enjoy the rush of adrenaline that came from running as fast as possible. A loud creeking and groaning sound came from nearby, causing Sonic to look around, but he couldn't find the cause. Until he realised the tree was falling. No time to panic, just have to get out of the tree before- CRASH!! Sonic woke up some time later. His head ached and his right leg burned with a pain Sonic had never felt before. The tree that he had been sitting in had fallen to the ground, luckily not on top of the hedgehog. He sighed, realising the bvllet that he dodged. "That was way too close..." Sonic tried to sit up, but his leg hurt too much and it wouldn't co-operate. Sonic eventually dragged himself to a sitting position and realised that his leg was bent the wrong way, and in the wrong place. //That would explain why my leg hurts so much... Probably broken right in half.// Sonic's thoughts swirled in his head, //Why didn't I tell Tails or Storm where I was going? They probably could have been looking for me by now.// It was too dangerous to move Sonic's leg too much, but he also knew that he couldn't stay out in the forest for too long. "Argh!" Sonic shouted at the sky, "What is wrong with me?!" He broke down into tears, scolding himself for the mess that he had gotten himself into. Sonic knew that crying wasn't going to do any good, but it at least helped his mental state. After crying for at least ten minutes, Sonic calmed down some and tried to think of a plan. //I can't walk, so how am I going to get home?// He realised something that would had been helpful to remember. "I didn't bring my communicator?! What is wrong with me?!" He screamed at himself, clearly upseting all the birds in the area. "I'm such an idiot..." Sonic muttered, "If I had just taken the two minutes it would have taken to tell Tails where I was going or grab my communicator, then I wouldn't be in this mess..." "I was about to ask why you were screaming, but given how bad your leg looks, I think I can figure it out." Shadow said. "How did you find me?" Sonic asked, grateful for Shadow. "I heard a tree fall and thought I should check it out." Shadow said, walking over to Sonic, "Do you feel dizzy or nauseated?" "Besides the horrible pain in my leg, I'm fine." Sonic answered. "Aside from some dirt in your fur and your clearly broken leg, you look fine." Shadow commented, clearly thinking. "Is that a good thing?" Sonic asked. "It's a good thing you can take a hit without getting seriously hurt." Shadow answered, "I won't be able to carry you and walking is out of the question..." "You could teleport, could you not?" Sonic asked, perhaps a bit too eagerly. Shadow glared at him, "I don't have a Chaos Emerald, Faker." Shadow spat the last word. "Tails has one. You could go it, it's not like I'm going anywhere." Sonic smiled wryly. Shadow sighed, "Fine. I'll be back." Shadow turned and started to walk away. "Are you you sure you're fine with me leaving without helping?" he asked. "I know you're getting help and that you can't help me much right now." Sonic answered. "Ok then." Shadow said, walking away. Sonic sat waiting, waiting for Shadow to return. The sun was setting and Shadow still hadn't returned. Sonic's head ached and he was tired. It was starting to get cold and there was nothing nearby that would keep Sonic warm. He shivered from the cold, starting to feel sick. He wanted to build a fire, but he wasn't sure if he could.
Shadow walked over, clearly not pleased. "Tails didn't give you the Chaos Emerald?" Sonic asked, noticing the other hedgehog's clear annoyance. Shadow nodded. "Of course!" Sonic shouted, burying his face in his hands. "I don't know what to do, Faker... I'm trying..." Shadow said. "I know, I'm not blaming you. It's my own fault for my stupidity." Sonic snapped, "If I had just told Tails or Storm where I was going or had grabbed my communicator or literally anything, I wouldn't be in this situation!" "Calm down." Shadow said, "It will do you no good to be this upset." "I... I know..." Sonic stumbled over his words, "But... This really is my fault... I got myself in this mess and I can't get myself out of it." "I realise." Shadow said, a slight edge to his voice, "But I also know that you can't push others away." "Look who's talking, Faker." Sonic snapped. "Why do I even try to help?" Shadow growled, "You don't appreciate my help! And, honestly, why should you? You're Sonic the hedgehog, you can do whatever you want without consequence, and you can judge others no matter what." Shadow mocked Sonic, "And honestly, I don't even know why Tails even bothers trying to help you." The angry hedgehog turned and walked away. "Shadow, wait!" Sonic shouted, "Please, don't leave me here!" Shadow didn't stop for even half a second. "Please!" Sonic begged, but it didn't help. Sonic was now stranded in the forest with a broken leg in the middle of the night. He tried to fight back tears, but to no avail. "Shadow please... I'm sorry..." Sonic sobbed, "I know I can be a j3rk at times, but please..." Shadow didn't answer, nor did he come back. Sonic was left crying in the woods, owls hooting and crickets singing in time with his tears. Sonic must have fallen asleep after he stopped crying. When he woke up it was morning and everything was damp. The birds were singing and the sun was shining. Sonic slowly sat up and looked around. He was in the same place as when he fell asleep. Everything ached with a dull ache and Sonic was hungry. Hungry, still tired (somehow), alone, and desperate, Sonic wasn't sure what to do. He thought he heard faint shouting. "Help!" Sonic shouted, hoping someone could hear him, hoping he wasn't wasting his energy. He repeated his cry after a few minutes. This time he heard response. Movement through the trees and shouting. A small fox burst through the trees and bushes, his normally yellow and orange fur had leaves and twigs sticking out of it. "Sonic!" Tails shouted, running over to Sonic. He hugged the hedgehog. "Hey, Tails." Sonic mumbled. He knew he was safe. He knew Tails could get him somewhere safe. "You had us worried sick!" Tails said, tears streaming down his face, "And you were..." Tails trailed off, noticing Sonic's leg. "I was stuck here." Sonic said, "I'm just glad you found me." "Me too." Tails said, "Come on, let's see if we can find something to help your leg so we can get you home." "Home..." Sonic mumbled, "Yeah... Home..." "Are you ok?" Tails asked. Sonic shook his head. He didn't want to use up any more energy than he needed to. Sonic started coughing. When he stopped coughing, Tails cautiously put a hand on Sonic's forehead. "That's some fever... Sonic, it's a good thing you've only been out here for a day..." Tails said, drawing his hand back. "Where's Storm?" Sonic asked. "Searching elsewhere, but we /need/ to get you home. With a fever so bad I doubt you'll last much longer out here." Tails said, looking quite worried."I'm fine Tails... I just need some help with my leg and that's it." Sonic insisted. And then he threw up from the pain of his headache and his leg. "I'll call Storm." Tails said, somehow unfazed. "Ok..." Sonic muttered. Tails smiled sadly as he walked a few steps away. Sonic sighed. A few minutes later, Tails walked back over. "Storm should be here soon, think you can make it that long?" "Tails, I'm not going to die in the next five seconds." Sonic said, quite unimpressed. Tails looked at the ground. "Sorry." he mumbled. "Tails, it's fine." Sonic said. He felt sick and lightheaded. "Sonic?" Tails asked, but Sonic barely heard him. Tails repeated his cry, only more urgent and scared. Sonic didn't answer, instead blacking out. Credits: Sega for Sonic, Shadow, and Tails Me for the story and Storm God for everything
