1. ----------------------- A shriek sounded out of the seaside cave as the white wolf announced his decision. "I will dispose of this pup. You are dismissed." The parents of the pup glanced up, frightened. The father, a blue-gray watirwulf, and the mother, an auburn windwulf. The mother stepped forward to plead her case. "It's only a pup. I can feed it and care for it. It won't burden the pack, or-" "You know the rules," he snapped, cutting the auburn wolf off. She stuttered for a moment, then lowered her head, tears beginning to form in the corners of her eyes. "These kinds of pups - weak, hybrid, and impure - are not tolerated in our pack. We are power. We are pure." the white wolf continued. "I will dispose of the pup," he repeated. "You. Are. Dismissed." He motioned with his tail, and a guard ushered the parents out. Now alone in the cave, the white wolf glanced down at the scrap of fur at his feet. He preferred to think of it as a scrap of fur, rather than a pup- after all, it would be no more than a limp and dead body in a few moments. Picking up the pup in his jaws, he paced out of the cave and onto the rocky cleft that the cave was nestled into. He scrabbled up the rocks and onto the highest point on the cleft, a large boulder jutting out over the crashing, dark sea below. The pup let out a tiny squeak, as if afraid of the sea below. The white wolf chucked hoarsely. "You should be afraid," he said around the pup held in his mouth. "You end here." He opened his jaws and let the pup fall into the churning sea below. ----------------------- The pup hit the water with a splash. The cold water woke it up, putting into its veins a will to survive. A will to stay alive for just a few moments longer, just long enough to say goodbye to the world. The pup flailed its limbs uselessly, attempting to swim, all the while not even knowing what swimming was. It smacked its tail into the water and moved just a few inches forward. As if amused by the pup's attempts to swim, and wanting to end these attempts quickly, the water rose up around it in a foaming wave. The wave crashed down onto the pup ruthlessly. The pup's eyes widened as it was pushed under into the dark water. The pup opened it's mouth, searching for air, but nothing but water rushed into its lungs. Clinging to the last scrap of life in its weak body, the pup tried desperately to propel itself upwards. But it failed, and everything faded to black. ----------------------- {next:

These subjects pop up a lot, and this chapter is a fairly sad one. I'll mark the chapters with trigger warnings in the title. Story and characters were created by and belong to me.
