2. --------------------------- The blue-tinted half-moon hung brightly in the sky as the low tides lapped rhythmically against the shoal, creating an eerie but elegant appearance. A wave, slightly larger than the others, reached forward onto the shore. It carried with it a small bundle of wet brown fur and gray feathers; a wolf pup, unconscious, and half dead. The wave deposited the wolf pup gently onto the shoal, and then receded back into the depths from which it had come. The pup opened its eyes slightly, and tried to take a breath in. It choked on the water in its lungs, spat some out, and then sneezed weakly. It tried to stumble a step forward, but tired quickly. It fell over onto its side, and slipped back into unconsciousness. --------------------------- "What have the waves brought me this time?" With bright eyes inspecting the newfound thing washed up on the shoal, and a basket of oysters half-full and held close to her body, the light brown wolf appeared curious and nonthreatening. Like most of the wolves of her tribe, Lumi was a welcoming and clever creature. So it was no surprise that she viewed the small, unconscious pup that had washed up on the shoal near her home as a creature in need of help. Placing her basket on the ground, she reached out with a forepaw and turned the pup over. It coughed up some water from its young lungs, struggling to take a wheezing breath. "Oh, you poor thing," she whispered. "What happened to you? Why are you here, and where do you belong?" ☽ ✧ No trigger warnings that I can think of, but death is mentioned in the first part. This chapter is a bit happier than the last one, and in my opinion, more immersive. Story and characters belong to me. I'll add a little animation in here soon! If you hadn't noticed, I'm trying to put an image of the place each chapter takes place in in the project; the last project had the cave by the stormy sea, this project has Lumi's shoal. This is exactly how it looks. I'll get around to drawing a reference for Lumi. She's a semi-important character in this story and I want to draw out literally every character.
