I wake up the next morning to my alarm clock beeping. I get up and pull on my jeans and black hoodie. I start to grab my backpack and then remember it's the weekend. Our school dance is next Friday, so Steven and Jackson are going to take me to pick out a suit!! I head down the hall into the kitchen, where I see Steven and Jackson sitting at the table. Isabella isn't awake yet. "Morning, Ethan! Have a waffle." Jackson says. He picks up Milo from the floor and holds him in his lap. "We need to tell you something, but we'll wait until Isabella gets here too," Steven says. Just as he says this, Isabella walks into the kitchen happily. "Mornin' everyone!" she says, taking a seat at the table and grabbing a waffle. "So, we have some news to share with you two," Steven says. "So do I! You can go first though" says Isabella. Steven looks over at Jackson, who holds out his hand and Steven squeezes it. "We're moving at the end of January," he says. How did Isabella already know this? Jackson continues. "Isabella already knows this because we were helping her with college admissions and were discussing where she would go." My head swims with worry. "Where will we go to school? Why are we moving? I like this house!" I say quickly. "I know, I like this house too," says Steven, "but it's only a rental. We found a new house in California in a town that is very LGBTQ-friendly and has pride events! You'll go to a school near our house." "Oh, and we are GETTING THE ADOPTION PAPERS!!!" Jackson says. I become so excited that I forget the worries about moving. "We are!? When?" Isabella and I both shout at the same time, then laugh. "Tomorrow," Steven says. "So, what's your news, Isabella?" "So..." Isabella starts as Fluffy jumps only her lap and starts purring as she pets him. "I'm lesbian, and I have a girlfriend who goes to my school. Her name is Charlie." Steven, Jackson, and I smile excitedly. "Honestly," Jackson says, "We always saw it in you. We were just waiting for you to tell us." My phone buzzes and I look at a text from Alex. "Wanna go to the school dance with me?" he says. "Mars and I broke up, and I thought it would be cool to go together." I put my phone down as anger rushes through me. So, I'm just the second choice?
