!!TW-ANGST, smoking, character death!! An empty echo. “Specks~!” A puff of smoke rose, joined by a silent sniff. “Ha Ha Ha~!” Takeda’s laugh wouldn’t leave his head. Another puff. Smoke from the cigarette that lifelessly hung from Ukai’s mouth made its way through a window that was open. The moon barely peaked through the window, illuminating a singular spot on the floor of Ukai’s quiet, dark, lonely apartment. The floor was usually spotless, but Ukai barely did anything anymore. A mindlessly cold wind burst into Ukai’s room, rushing around. The quick breeze stirred up the mess on the floor, papers flying everywhere. Another puff. Ukai’s eyes lost a little more hope every time the smoke invaded his lungs. Another puff. The painful, taunting memories replayed in his head. — Takeda’s smile shined like the sun. Ukai couldn’t help but smile in return. Earlier that day, Ukai had given Takeda quite the surprise. A date, that was. The cherry blossoms were in bloom, and Ukai found the perfect place to admire them, with an additional picnic, all including food that he made. The day was going just as Ukai had hoped. Perfectly. It couldn’t have been going any better. Takeda was taken completely by surprise. His smile was more precious than the moment itself. It was something Ukai treasured most, with Takeda stuck in first place. Takeda laid down on the soft picnic blanket that Ukai had bought the day before, just for this moment. The day was a super special day, and Ukai wanted everything to be just as perfect as he could make it. Hopefully, even better. Ukai took a seat next to him, opening the woven picnic basket between them both. Here went nothing. Ukai looked for the package marked with a big, black T, showing it was for Takeda. He took it out, along with the dumpling soup he made. The package for Takeda contained an onigiri, just like the one that Ukai had made for him the first time Takeda had come over. Lots of things were special, and he waited to see if Takeda noticed anything, but the brunette was too busy watching the cherry blossoms fall. What a sight to behold. Ukai smiled and continued to take out the last of the contents in the basket, like the lemonade and the utensils. He tapped Takeda on the shoulder to draw attention to the food. “Ta da~!” He awkwardly cheered, wiggling his fingers, giving a weak, awkward attempt at jazz hands. Takeda’s eyes lit up, and Ukai was relieved. “So, you DO like it..” Ukai exhaled, letting out a breath he didn’t even know he had been holding. Takeda nodded violently. “This is amazing! Everything looks so yummy, Keishin!” The male cheered. Ukai smiled. He was genuinely relieved, confused as to why he thought Takeda would react any differently. “Welp, dig in, Specks! Just, save the onigiri for last.” Takeda excitedly nodded, quickly pouncing toward the soup. Ukai laughed, and began to eat himself. As they finally finished up, Takeda eyed the onigiri next to him. He looked back up at Ukai, excited. Ukai nodded “Knock yourself out! Just- be a little careful. ‘Kay?” Takeda nodded once more, and unwrapped the onigiri, quickly biting into it. “You know,” Ukai began. “This is where we met, exactly two years ago today.” Ukai smiled, leaning back and looking around. “You were in a rush, and I rammed into you. Papers EVERYWHERE.” Ukai laughed. Takeda gasped, remembering. “You’re right-! Aww, Kei~!” Takeda gushed. Takeda’s smile returned, and Ukai laughed. “And that onigiri right there, that’s the exact same onigiri I made for you when you first came over to my place,” Ukai said, Takeda gasping in amazement once more. Ukai waited until Takeda made a weird face at the onigiri, and stood up. He took Takeda’s hand, pulling him up as well. He took the onigiri out of Takeda’s hand, and pulled out… A ring. Takeda’s eyes widened. Ukai smiled. “Yep.” He laughed. “N-no way-” Takeda mumbled, a shaky smile melting onto his face. Ukai then got onto one knee, holding the silver ring up to him. “Ittetsu Takeda. Will you make me the happiest man on Earth… and marry me?” Ukai sniffed. Takada opened his mouth, then- Sirens. They pierced Ukai’s eardrums as they arrived, his entire body shaking as he held an unconscious Takeda in his arms. The male’s body was getting colder by the second. The tears in Ukai’s eyes made everything hard to see, and he could barely hear anything other than the loudness of the ambulances rushing to take Takeda to the nearest hospital. This was supposed to be the happiest day of his life. Why… Why did this happen to him? He felt Takeda being taken from his arms, and him being dragged along into the back of the ambulance. Ukai held Takeda’s hand the whole time. VVV continue below VVV
(DO NOT READ UNTIL YOU FINISH THE ABOVE ^^) (Scroll btw) Takeda didn’t wake up for the next few days. Ukai never left the hospital, staying right by Takeda’s side. Ukai couldn’t process what had happened, why this was happening. Takeda didn’t deserve this. Ukai held Takeda’s weakening hand as much as he could. He would be constantly kicked out of the room, just so the doctors could run tests, but they never really found out what was happening. “Let’s just wait until he wakes up.” The doctors would constantly tell him. Day by day, Ukai seemed to relax just a bit more. One night, while Ukai was sleeping, there was a loud noise. Ukai tried to ignore it, but it wouldn’t go away. Ukai groggily woke up from the uncomfortable couch in the hospital room, looking around for what seemed to be the noise. Then he looked at the heart monitor. All he saw was a straight line. A straight, piercing noise coming from the machine. Doctors rushed in, all yelling different commands. There were so many noises, Ukai couldn’t process it. All he could do was look at the body of the man he had proposed to. He never even said yes.
