hhh i'm glad i got this out i was worried i wouldn't be able to We had given Rowan a ride to school. After all, we had already missed a week. Rowan’s house was still flooded, as we had seen while trying to get his stuff from in his room. The entire basement was three feet under, his backpack drenched, his bed and clothing waterstained. The walls were crusted with salt. His entire basement smelled like the ocean. So we had simply grabbed a few textbooks from his closet and the kitchen, salvaging everything we could for school. Made copies of what I had, although some classes he took weren’t the same as what I took and he was completely emptyhanded for a few of them. But we couldn’t keep missing school. Corrupt was going to take Percy when he got back from taking us. Rowan sat in the backseat, staring twitchily out the window. We had managed to find a travel bag for him, luckily. We pulled into the drive-through and I heard Rowan let out a long breath. I gave him a smile from over my shoulder. “You ready?” “I guess so.” ××× When we stepped into second period, all eyes were on us. Whispers erupted from the room like wind. Rowan winced, and I gave him a little nudge. We missed three days. I calculated in my head as I sat down, assuming all of maybe four or five pages of reading and two worksheets, one double-sided. So when our teacher walked over, looked at both of us with the most accusing and suspicious glare that an educator should not have, I simply leaned back as Rowan asked how much make-up work we had. The answer was seven pages of reading and four worksheets. Corrupt burst into laughter when we told him. I about slugged him in the face. “Well, you both better get started, then.”
