!! tw: very slight ketchup and implied d3ath I kneeled in front of the devil himself, waiting to face my fate - or doom. My knees were badly scuffed, hands bloodied. There was an intense, aching pain in my chest, and I suspected I may have broken a rib or two in the fight. Beside me, Giselle hadn't fared any better. Her beautiful, porcelain skin was marred by countless gashes and nicks. Bruises peppered her sharp jawline, ugly shades of purple and blue. My breath rattled in my lungs. Panic was tightly coiled inside me. King Alexander approached us, getting down from his high obsidian throne. His steps echoed on the black marble steps as he stalked down the dais, cool and collected. After all, we were at his mercy. There was nothing we could do to escape; at least twenty guards lined the perimeter of the giant room. Alas, we were in no condition to fight. "Is it correct that you tried to infiltrate the palace?" His voice boomed across the room, making me flinch slightly. It was the kind of voice that demanded respect - no, commanded it. "Yes," Giselle croaked. I merely hung my head, causing the tips of my inky black hair to brush against the icy floor. "Is it correct that you had an assassination attempt made on me?" Giselle and I nodded painfully. King Alexander's gaze swept over the both of us, and his eyes fixed onto me. I dared to look up. His eyes were black and bottomless like a demon's, full of unspeakable cruelty. Evil prowled in those obsidian eyes. I had no doubt that he would do whatever it took to get what he wanted. "Well then," he drawled. "For your crimes, you will be sentenced to execution in three days." He paused. Dread sank to the bottom of my stomach. "Guards. Take them away." Hands clamped over my wrists, and I saw that the guards were restraining Giselle as well. She struggled and shrieked, kicking at their shins, but I did nothing. This was my fate and I had resigned to it. There was no escaping. My death was the only future I could have. And so I was dragged away, under the mercy of the demon of the castle.
