Chapter 3 It had been hours since I had left to start the journey, doubtful thoughts began to invade my mind. Was it really possible that I could do this? Should I just quit while it’s not too late? I shook my head, No. I’m not giving up now. It’s the only way I can prove myself. My feet ached as I dragged the incredibly heavy boots needed to stimulate gravity outside of the domes through the thick, red dirt of Xasauna. I looked over at the clock located on the inside of the spacesuit helmet. Only 5:30?? I slumped over onto a large purple rock, I felt like crying. This was going to be a long week. I tried to push those thoughts out of my head, but I simply couldn’t, I looked around in despair. For some reason that snapped me back into reality, I never really noticed how pretty Xasuna was from inside the domes, I looked out into the swirling dark blue horizons, and down at the dark red dirt. It was an interesting combination, but at the moment it was the most beautiful thing I had ever seen. I Heaved myself off of the rock with a burst of sudden inspiration, I could do this. I COULD do this, and my dad would be finally proud. No, EVERYONE would be proud. I imagined myself confidently returning home and everyone celebrating with a huge banquet in my honor. I would be the first person to ever survive this long outside of the domes. My name would go down in history forever. As I trekked onward I began writing my own autobiography of this adventure in my head, I smiled as I fantasized names for the book “Paige McCarthy, A tale outside the domes” Apparently time really goes by when you begin to appreciate your surroundings, as I checked the clock again it was 10:30 Wow! I hiked some more and found a place to sleep, this was finally the end of the first day. 1 down, 6 to go.
