Rupert was emotionally damaged when he ran away from home. He ran away because his family would only let him have pine cones and peanuts, while they treated themselves to the nice, juicy, tasty, walnuts. Rupert was sad, so he ran away, so unknowingly to his parents, they forgot about him though, because all they cared about was walnuts.
