➳ JWC Camper Signups 2023 ✧・゚ __ __ __ Hi there! This is the camper signups project for the upcoming session of January Writing Camp! <3 JWC is an annual writing camp on scratch. Campers make a word goal for themselves to reach during the month, and there are fun daily and weekly activities that you can do to earn points. Campers are sorted into cabins, and they compete to earn the most points for their cabin by the end of the session. The camp runs in UTC time from January 1st to January 31st. Please read the entire FAQ so you understand how everything works. :) __ __ __ ➳ FAQ (Frequently Asked Questions) • What is different about JWC compared to SWC? SWC is a big inspiration for this camp, and it's amazing! But JWC is unique in its own way. JWC is a smaller community, so everyone gets to know each other and bond on a deeper level. We also have a few different activities and events, including writing fight, showcased writing, and live results. You'll see other things as well that are different. Those are just a few things we do that make JWC unique. :) • How often do I have to participate in activities? There's no requirement for how often you participate, but of course, we'd love to see you active! <3 If you know that you won't be active for camp, though, please let your leader know that you are dropping out. • What types of writing count towards my word goal? - Creative writing - Songwriting - Essays - School Assignments - Journaling - Roleplaying - Reports Each word you write in the categories above during camp counts as one point for your cabin. Notes, Copying information, and Dictation do not count for words. Feel free to ask if other types of writing count towards your goal. • Do I have to write in my cabin's genre? Nope! You can write in whatever genre you like. :) • What is the competitive aspect? Cabins compete to see who can earn the most points by the end of the session. Campers work as a team in their cabin to gain the most points, and it is a friendly competition. The winners win bragging rights. ;) • When do the camper sign-ups close? They close on December 26th at 11:59 p.m. UTC time. OR when we reach our cap of 180 signups, which is our max. This project will re-open as backup camper signups on January 1st and finally close on the 14th at 11:59 p.m. UTC time. Backup campers are only sorted into camp to even out the cabins. __ __ __ ➳ Cabins & Leaders • Droid Cabin (Sci-Fi): & • Journalist Cabin (Non-Fi): & • Knight cabin (Fantasy): & • Pirate Cabin (Hi-Fi): & • Rebel Cabin (Dystopian): , & • Sleuth cabin (Mystery): & __ __ __ ➳ Camper signup form: Answer these questions and post your answers in the comments! 1. Your username (without @) 2. On a scale of 1 to 10 how active will you be in January? 3. Have you participated in JWC before? (If you have, have you won the writing competition before?) 4. What are your top 3 cabins? If you have no preference, just say that! :) 5. What is your word goal? (If you're unsure what goal you want, 5,000 is a good word goal to start with, and you can always raise it later.) 6. What is your WPM? (WPM is words per minute- an average of how many words you type in a minute. To check, go to https://www.typingtest.com. Put the number that you get in this answer.) 7. Are you okay with being quoted in the memory book? (yes, no, or ask first.) 8. Are you okay with having a piece of your writing featured in the main cabin? (yes or no) 9. If you chose yes to the last question, please link a piece of writing you want featured because this helps a lot. But, if you do not provide one here, your leaders will ask you for one later. 10. Questions ➳ Some things to note: You may not be sorted into your top cabin choices, but that is because we have to even out the campers in each cabin. If you would like to be sorted into the same cabin as someone else, you can put that into your sign-up. :) __ __ __ ➳ Closing: Thanks for reading this far! ^^ We're excited for another session of JWC, and we hope to see you there. <3
