Yet again, another collection of word-building notes. I'm terrible with introductions so I'm going to just cut to the chase. The Empire of the Saber: The Empire is a monarchy. It is run by a council of the monarch, and some of the higher-ranking nobles. The Empire is kept in check by a governing document that is meant to prevent any corruption in the nobility. This document has been proven faulty in some cases, one major case being the revolt and overthrow of the king by the Duchess of Balonlea in the late second age. The firstborn of the monarch becomes the monarch when the current monarch steps down or passes away. There are multiple nobility ranks, and each noble is able to grant (to a certain extent depending on their rank,) ribbons to 'mons that do inspiring deeds. These ribbons can be worn as accessories or put on display, and can sometimes act as something akin to receipts for certain prizes. The highest known ribbon in the Empire is "Zacian's Ribbon," and is only given to the most extraordinarily courageous 'mons. (War heroes or something of that sort, nothing frivolous,) A mon's last name is quite important in the two large kingdoms of Galar. If your ancestors were peasant glovers, for instance, your name might be, "Nancy Glover," as your ancestor was most likely referred to that even before last names were a legal thing. On the other hand, you might be a member of one of the noble families. They tend to get their last names from great knights who were given the opportunity to make their own noble family from their chivalrous deeds. If you are a noble, your name would be something more like, "Nyandra Goldenlance," in the stead of your ancestor's occupation, you got something much more original. The surname of direct royalty is "Lilyflower," (the Duchess of Balonlea was also known as Bedawyn Lilyflower.) The Bulwark Domain: The Bulwark Domain also has a monarch, but handles it much more differently. Their government is split into three sectors, or, "branches." (similar to the U.S. or the Roman Republic.) The first branch is the Assembly of all Citizens. Anyone can be a part of the Assembly meetings, as long as they fit these requirements: 1: They must be an adult. 2: They must be a citizen. 3: They must have not committed any felonies against the crown in the past year. As long as you fit these requirements, and show up in time, you're allowed to join in and vote. The Assembly has the following powers: They petition laws to be voted on in the Royal Court. They set taxes. They vote for magistrates. (More on that later.) The Assembly has seven leaders, also known as Tribunes. They are voted every ten years, and each have different powers in the Government, though they all share these: They can veto laws. They can grant asylum to others. The next branch is the Council of the Wise. To be a part of the council, you must meet these requirements: 1: You must have served as a magistrate. 2: You must have gone to this world's equivalent of college. 3: You must have at least one ribbon granted to you by a Viscount or higher. The Council has the following powers: They spend the taxes. They control all diplomatic relations. They choose young 'mons to be admitted to the various knights academies. Last but not least, the monarch and nobles! The monarch becomes the monarch if and only if they are the firstborn child of the current monarch, and the current monarch steps down or passes away. The only difference between the line of succession in the two kingdoms, is that if enough of the Assembly votes against the future monarch with enough proof that they are unfit to rule, they will either be replaced by a regent until they are fit, or the next in line will become the monarch. Ribbons work in the same way as the other kingdom. The highest known ribbon in the domain is, "Zamazenta's Ribbon," which is given to those who risk themselves for the sake of protecting others. Your last name may be because of an ancestor's occupation, but it may also be the name of a certain landmark or area. When last names became legally required, many of the domain plainly suggested where they were from as their surname. "Syreth Of Postwick upon Fluvia," was shortened to, "Syreth Postwick,". The Royal surname is "Magenta," in the Domain. Both Royal families are said to be blood descendants of the guardian legendaries themselves, but the only proof that is given is the distinct appearance that resembles the legendaries, and the strange moves that are usually impossible for their species to use. This of course, is proof enough for most.
