He couldn't remember his age, his family, or even his own name. He was surrounded by forest covered in snow. He looked down to see a lifeless limp body, later learning that was his own. After hours of walking through the forest, he stumbled upon a village. It turned out the day Christmas Spirit regained consciousness was on Christmas Day and so forth donned the name Christmas Spirit. He stayed near the village, for the village was busy and cozy, and being near it made him feel less alone. One day, Christmas Spirit was on the roof of one of the tiny cottages, staying out of view, and watched the villagers doing their daily commute. All of a sudden, a calico cat popped into view, scaring Christmas Spirit, asking what his name was. Instead of running away from the villager, Christmas Spirit decided to trust the villager. Christmas Spirit introduced himself, learning that the villager was a she-cat named Poppy. Christmas Spirit and Poppy become close friends. Whenever they wanted to hangout, they would go outside of town, for Christmas Spirit was afraid of the villagers' reaction to a ghost. They would either go walking around the forest or would climb the giant willow tree at the edge of the town. After a while, Christmas Spirit started developing feelings for Poppy, but never said anything, afraid of losing Poppy, or making her an outcast for dating a ghost. One day, on Christmas day, a nosy villager followed Poppy to the willow tree. The villager saw Poppy with Christmas Spirit and was taken aback by what they saw. The villager ran back to the village, gathered up other villagers, and got torches, with the plan of driving the ghost out. Soon, Christmas Spirit and Poppy heard the shouts of the angry villagers. Christmas Spirit had to run away. Poppy insisted that she go with Christmas Spirit, but he decided against it, for ghosts were outcasts, and it would be a hard life. Christmas Spirit hugged Poppy, and said his final goodbye, and jumped off the willow tree into the forest. Legend has it that every Christmas day Christmas Spirit and Poppy return to that very tree to reunite, and part ways until they meet once more. Why did the backstory take longer than the animation ;-;
