NPE: North Pole Express. Welcome to THE MAILER R.R.! Established in 1938 and its 83rd anniversary on December 7, 1938 History: In 1938 a new railroad opened up for businesses to deliver mail that's why it's called the mailler R.R. Locomotive #1938 is the first mailer R.R. locomotive. It closed down in 1955 only doing routes to drop people off. In 1960 they replaced it with diesel power as steam engines were starting to get scrapped. In 1972 it began to reopen as a tourist railroad. They restored #1938 and put it back in use. The diesel went to a different railroad. In 1975 the company opened back up. In 2000 they bought another locomotive for the line so they could do more NPE runs and eventually, it became the official NPE locomotive sometimes doing regular routes also.
