You and the benders follow Val, Luna, and Indigo through the winding paths of the Eastern Air Temple. As you reach an embossed door with what was seemingly an intricate lock system, Val flicks her wrist, and with her airbending trick the door swishes open. The door in question led to a spacious, sunlit courtyard, scattered with timber tables and seats. Upon taking a seat at one of the cushions, you realize that--not only yours--but every table is spread with a checkered game board and tiles of various symbols. People meander their way to a seat of their own, and Val stands up to pull everyone’s attention. “Let’s begin the game, shall we?” ༺ ۩ ༻ Welcome to our first Nation Challenge! The element of air is all about freedom, so we’ll be focusing on using variety in our words to create vivid stories. Here are a few ways you can go about doing so: ⌲ Imagery and Mood: Imagery is using visual descriptors to “paint a picture” in the reader’s mind - and mood is often created by imagery! These two go hand in hand to capture the energy of a story. ⌲ Figurative Language: Metaphors, personifications, oxymorons and other types of figurative language are perfect to add more vibrancy and imagination to your writing. You can learn about all sorts of figurative language online - but the gist of it is any sort of non-literal phrase (such as ‘the stars are dancing’ or ‘a deafening silence’) ⌲ Thesaurus: My personal favorite - if I have a common word I’ve used repeatedly in a sentence (like said, moved, etc.), I’ll search up words similar to that to have more interesting variety in my wording. ༺ ۩ ༻ For your first challenge, everyone must band together to write a collaborative story of 1k words! It can be about anything of choice, but it must have at least 2 characters. When writing for the collaborative story, focus on how your descriptions and narrations sound. Try to be detailed, but don’t go too overboard! (Small tip: if you’re using two adjectives to describe the same thing, (“the excitement and eagerness of the fox”) you’re probably going too overboard.) ༺ ۩ ༻ ⌲ Credits to Luna for the description <3 ⌲ Credit to all three master benders for the thumbnail! ⌲ Music is "The Avatar's Love" from the ATLA Team
