⠀ ⠀ ⠀ ⠀ ⠀ ⠀ PROLOGUE They wandered up and down restlessly as if the whispering waves were hurling them across the shore, like a good game of catch. The incessant creaks of their tiptoeing toes could be heard amid the eerie air of silence. Mystery seemed to follow them in any step they took. A questionable scene. Who could they be? ⠀ ⠀ ⠀CHAPTER 1 : A quaint tea party On the dusky, dull Donaldson street, on a gloomy day, a rather stressed lady was chaotically running about. "Dorothy!" She yelled, louder than a choir of elephants. A skinny, pale girl, in a wondrous pink dress, that was as pale as herself, came rushing to the lady. She responded calmly, in a much more calmer way than the lady, "Yes ma?" "Dorothy, where have you been, you ignorant child? I told you to stay near me and did you listen? Of course not." Dorothy's mother kept scolding the poor girl, until a booming noise came, interrupting ma. The noise was quiet at first, however, as soon as it came nearer, the sound became louder. It was a cheerful, joyous noise that every child living on Donaldson street new. "Ma, ma! Look, look! It's the Carnival Twins!" Dorothy screamed excitedly, hurriedly pointing at the incoming dazzling truck. Varied colours, posters and pictures were filling the truck's walls, the jaunty music was playing the loudest it could get - everything seemed joyful on that vehicle. However, an irritated voice put a stop to it. "Goodness gracious, Dorothy Burton, what a disgrace! What a humiliation! How can you even think about some foolish carnival truck when we're late to an important tea party? Are you even thinking about me, your poor mother? What a disgrace." It was the voice of ma. A raging ma in fact. In the end, that raging ma took the devasted Dorothy to the tea party, without any Carnival Twins. Subsequently, It was a boring tea party. There were posh adults, all dressed up in puffy dresses, bickering about dull grown up stuff. Dorothy really craved some fun. Looking around, she spotted a terribly uninterested boy sitting next to a table of three ladies, all slurping tea. Dorothy eagerly waddled up to the boy. "Hullo!" she greeted him shortly. "Hm? Oh, hullo." "Whatcha doin'?" "Nothin'. Isn't it kind of obvious?" "Hm. Whatcha name?" "William. Why are you the one asking the questions?" "Dorothy, pleased to meet you." And so the conversation went on, a very friendly one as the children had loads in common.
