The wind rattled the door as the floors creaked and groaned. She got up and moved to the bed. Sally scooched closer to the fire. "Emmeret. Emmeret," she whispered, as she shook him to wake him up, "The dark ones are coming!". He turned around and hit her in the face. He groaned and rolled over. "Wait. Did you say dark ones?" he asked, worried. "Yes, you idgit. You need to hide now." He jumped up and grabbed his ratty old blanket and tossed it over his shoulder. Emmeret ran to the empty bookcase and yanked out the wood board that hid the passage. He squeezed in and pushed the board back in place just as the door slammed open and the D.E.A.T.H guards marched in. "We heard you were harboring fugitives like Emmeret Price," Tsumetai Kaze whispered coldly. Sally shivered. T.K. always creeped her out. "No. I would never even consider such an atrocious thing," she said, her voice as expressionless as her face. A coil of her fire-red hair fell into her eyes. A guard, about her age, reached over to brush it out of her eyes. T.K. turned and slapped his hand away while twisting his arm behind his back. The guard, #45290, yelped out in pain. T.K. twisted harder and there was a sickening crack. The guard crumpled to the floor as his arm turned blackish-blue, like an ugly bruise.
