this is a photo taken on January 19th 1919 in the Rhineland while the allies were occupying it after the war was over, Joseph (my great great grandfather) is in this photo, i put a red circle around so you can find him easily. As you can see alot of the men in the photo are happy, this was probably because it could've been their first international vacation since airlines and modern transportation didn't exist, all they had to do during the occupation was to patrol the streets and man the border so they got to have fun during that time and see some sites. I guess you could say its a nice break deserved after 4 years of war
