(Sounds of a News intro) News Reporter 1 (Jim): Welcome back to the news with Jim and Jenna, your home for the latest in LongClaire! What have we got today, Jenna? News Reporter 2 (Jenna): Well, other than the news of a new bakery opening up down the road from LongClaire Theatre- News Reporter 1 (Jim): Sounds delicious, Jenna. News Reporter 2 (Jenna): On a lower note, there has been a body discovered in the local school, LongClaire junior high. The victim has been identified as Kenzie Soku, a student attending the school. The police are holding an investigation at this moment. We are all incredibly sorry for Kenzie and her family going through all of this. Now let's go to Rachael with the weather. (TV shuts off) (Music plays. Transitions to the sounds of a police car. The sounds quiet.) Redd: they’re still investigating it, huh? I figured. Celia: Well of course they’re investigating still. A murder is not something you can solve overnight. Redd: I know that! Hey, Celia, have you talked to Sara at all since- you know… Celia: No. she must be really sad, though. They spent a lot of time together this year. Redd: We didn't really know each other though. I wonder why she never hung out with Sara while we were with her. Celia: It’s probably me. I've gotten a lot of news coverage recently, so I’m a little more well-known than before. Gosh, why did it have to be my family that founded the town, huh? Maybe then I could go to Walmart without someone being like “Oh my gosh, is that Celia LongClaire?” Redd: Well, she never hung out with us regardless. She was kinda rude as well. Celia: Hey, this police siren is making my head hurt. You wanna go somewhere else? We could go check up on Sara. Redd: Sure, yeah… (Doorbell rings. Door creaks.) Sara’s Mom: Oh, hi! Celia and…. (trails off) Redd: Redd. Sara’s Mom. Right. What are you doing here? Celia: We got the news last night and wanted to check up on Sara. Sara’s Mom: It’s tragic, isnt it… well, come on in. (Door closes) Sara’s Mom: (Shouts) Sweetie, your friends are here. (Normal) Why don’t you two take her some of these cookies I made? Redd: Your cookies could cheer me up any day, Mrs. Amako! You know I’ll be a regular customer at the bakery! (Celia elbows him.) Redd: Ow! Hey, what was that for? Celia: Right place, Wrong time. (Oven closes) Sara’s Mom: Here, freshly baked peanut butter cookies, her favorite. Oh and Celia, why don’t you take some white chocolate cookies? (Next scene) (Knocking) Redd: Sara? Sara (Disheartened): It’s open. (Door Opens) Celia: Hey… We brought cookies. (Door Closes) (Silence, nothing but the sound of Redd and Sara eating cookies.) Celia: Hey, Sara, how are you feeling? (No response.) Redd: Hey, you can’t mourn her forever. Celia: Redd, give her some time. The news got out this morning. she‘s probably only known for a few hours. Sara: uhm, about… that… Redd: Huh? Sara: I’ve known for almost two days at this point. Celia and Redd (In Unison): What?!? Celia: But how? The news got out this morning, kenzie’s parents didn’t even know until this morning! Sara: I- Redd: Seriously, Sara! Spit it out! (silence) Sara: I- I found her. I was headed home and I was waiting for her like normal and so I (pause) went to her classroom. The teacher told me she went to the locker room to get her supplies for soccer, so I went. And- and then- Celia: (Cuts her off) Don’t say it if you can’t, Sara. (Silence, nothing but some quiet sobs from Sara) Redd: Sara. you’ve gotta face the facts. She’s gone. Celia: Redd. Redd: There's no point in wishing it never happened. There’s no changing it. Celia: Redd! Redd: But, the point is, there’s someone out there who’s responsible. You can have some hope that the police will catch them and give them what they deserve! Celia: (Small laugh) Yeah, and if they can’t do it, we’ll do it ourselves! Sara: *sniff* yeah… yeah! You’re right, redd. That does give me some hope. Thanks. Celia: You're welcome! Hey, did I ever tell you about the time that Redd sat on a traffic cone? (fades out) (You can hear them laughing.) (Redd can be seen playing video games in their room) Redd: ok… punch then kick, duck, aaaaand slide! Redd's Parent (either one): Redd, you left your phone in here. I think your friend Sara is calling. (he answers.) Redd: Hey Celia. Celia: Redd, you know how the police have been investigating Kenzie's case for about a week now? Redd: Uhm, yeah. of course. Celia: I've already told sara this but... (Music stops) Celia: they can't solve it. Redd: (Shocked Gasp) Celia: We're meeting at Sara's in an hour. be there! (Scene change, Sara's tree house) Sara: I think you can all tell why I called you here. Redd: because the police can't solve it. Sara: Ding! Celia: So, what next? Sara: We solve it! That's what you said, last week, right Celia? That'd we would solve it? (Celia and Redd sit in silence.) (continued below.)
Redd: Uhm... Celia: Hm... Sara: What? Celia: maybe I was exaggerating a bit, Im not sure... Redd: how can you expect us to solve it? We're in eighth grade, Sara. Sara: Redd. come on. if they can't solve it, then maybe we can. we knew her personally, and I have extra information. i won't rest until the person who is responsible is behind bars. So, I'm recruiting you guys to help me solve this case- and prove it can- and will- be solved! Celia and Redd: (Mentally, in unison) What have u got myself into? END EPISODE ONE. Notes- sorry, it's pretty short! the first really only has to set everything up and get the listeners hooked. i promise it picks up from here! Where the scenes are described I put those because I'm going to have art along with the specific scenes. @imakesongcovers and @twig_thedeerfox are playing the news reporters. you two can record lines for both because I accidentally wrote two reporters but only cast one. i also realised kenzie has no lines for - obvious reasons- and I'm sorry to the kenzies, she will have lines in flashbacks next episode ! Similar to above, if you don't have lines I'm sorry, that just means I couldn't fit it anywhere for some reason or you're not really relevant until later.
