The job was finished. The Light Fairy smiled at what she had done. Because of her actions, Milrale would be a better place for all fairies. When the fairies had first come to Milrale, it was a pleasant place. It was a mixture of both sides of Earth—above ground and under the ground. The land had forests, lakes, mountains, and deserts, but also the cool darkness of the caves on Earth where the fairies had originally come from. But the Light Fairy didn’t get why the Royal Fairies would choose to keep the darkness when it didn’t have to be there. Sure, the fairies had never known anything else, but none of them particularly liked it, since no one could see anything. So the Light Fairy created a sun, to sit high in the sky and give light to the world. “What have you done?” a voice said quietly behind her. The Light Fairy turned to see a Rock Fairy shielding her eyes from the new light. The Light Fairy happily waved her arms at the world, which she could now see easily. “I’ve made a light, so fairies can always see this, without having to strain their eyes. And it works all the time!” The Rock Fairy repeated her question. “What have you done?” “I don’t understand,” the Light Fairy said. “What could be wrong with being able to see?” “Haven’t you noticed that your light also brings heat? And if it stays on all the time, soon Milrale will be nothing but a hot, barren wasteland.” The Light Fairy gazed around in shock. All the lush green plants, and the cool lakes… a wasteland? “Well, I’m a Light Fairy. I create light, I don’t take it away. So what do you suggest I do now?” The Rock Fairy smirked. “I can make the light disappear for half of the day to let things cool down… if you give me partial control of the Light Fairies’ powers, and do everything I tell you to do.” The Light Fairy was shocked. “But that’s impossible. Fairies can’t split their powers.” “It’s not /splitting/ powers. Just giving me a bit of control over them.” The Light Fairy shifted uncomfortably. She really didn’t like the idea of this, but what was the alternative? Milrale essentially being destroyed? She had no choice. “Alright. How do we do this?”
