--------------- Happy Chinese New Year! ---------------- Lunar New Year is a well-known festival widely celebrated Asia. The legends tells us of a mythical beast named the Nian. Every year, during the Spring Festival, the beast would attack the village, eating villagers while they're sleeping. To prevent that, the villagers went into hiding, but one year a man decided he would take revenge on the Nian and drive it away. The man stuck red papers with writings inscribed on them and set off firecrackers. The next day, the villagers went out from hiding and came back to their town. Seeing that their village hasn't been destroyed, they understood that the beast was afraid of the colour red and loud noises. Since then, once New Year approaches, everyone would wear red clothes, hang red lanterns, and red spring scrolls on windows and doors and used firecrackers and drums to frighten away the Nian. From then on, Nian never came to the village again. ---------------------------------------------------------------
