It was a peaceful Christmas Eve on Mobius. Infinite had just joined the Resistance, and everything seemed calm. At Resistance HQ, Sonic was trying to keep up with Tails. Tails had just gotten an idea, and whatever it was, he certainly seemed excited about it. Tails ran into the meeting room. Tails: Hey, guys! Knuckles: Oh, hey buddy. Amy: Everything okay? Tails: Huh? Oh, yeah, everything's fine. But I have an idea I needed to tell you guys! Knuckles: Okay. Shoot. Tails: *grins* Okay! So, you guys know how Infinite just joined? Sonic: Yeah. So? Tails: And Shadow and Infinite both lost people close to them, right? Knuckles: Yeah... Tails: I might have a plan... But I'll need help. Sonic: A plan involving Shadow and Infinite? This is going to be interesting. *Cracks knuckles* Let's get to work! A few minutes later. Rookie walked in. The guys had moved into Tails' workshop, and they seemed to be working on some sort of... very big machine? Rookie: Um, hey. What's all this? Tails: Oh, hey, Rookie! We're working on a Christmas present for Shadow and Infinite. Rookie: Um. *inspects machine* What... exactly is it? Tails: Well, have you ever heard of the Genesis Wave? Doctor Eggman and Wily made it a long time ago. Rookie: Um, no. I haven't. Please explain? Tails: It can alter reality... *waiting for Rookie to get it.* Rookie: ... Rookie: Oh. *eyes widen* OHHHH. Okay, I got it now. But how is this going to work? Tails: You'll see! *grins* For now though, why don't you go find Infinite? Don't you two share an apartment in Sunset City? Rookie: Oh, yeah! Okay, see you guys later! Knuckles: Bye, Rookie! Rookie grabbed his coat and dashed off to his apartment. When he came in, he spotted Infinite. They had gotten a Nintendo Switch a while back, and he was playing Sonic Forces. Rookie plopped onto the couch next to him. Infinite jumped. Infinite: Gah! Geez, Gadget, you scared me. Rookie: Heh, sorry. How's it going? Infinite: Um. Strangely. Do you have any idea how weird it feels fighting yourself in a video game? Rookie: Ha, I guess that is kinda odd. Just then, there was a knock at the door. Rookie jumped. Rookie: Who on earth? He opened the door and his eyes widened. Infinite: Gadget? Who is it? There was no answer. Infinite: Gadget? *Puts down controller, walks to the door* The Jackal Squad was standing there. Crush waved. Crush: Boss! There you are. We were worried. Infinite: *trembling* C-Crush? This.. This can't be real. Crush: Can it not? *pinches his arm* Ouch! I think it's real! Infinite: *looks at Rookie, then back to Crush.* You're... You're back. *Smiles, tears up* YOU'RE BACK! *Hugs Crush, then the other members of the Squad* But.. How? Belladonna: *shrugs* We woke up in a weird lab, and the orange fox kid told us to come find you. So we did. Infinite: Orange..? Ah. Tails. Heh. I'm going to have a little chat with that fox soon. But that doesn't matter right now. My squad is back. Crush: Yeah. Hey, look, candy! *Snatches candy cane from the table* They laughed, and Rookie grinned.
