i felt like making a project explaining the clan's religion in new moon so- basically, they believe that there's a god who's existed since the beginning of time. her name is moon. she gets her powers from the moon, hence her name, and she can create life. she lives in a different dimension than where the clans are, but she has the power to look down into earth and see stuff. moon loves everything, and believes everyone is important, no matter how big or small. one day, moon had an idea. what if she made a piece of land where cats could happily live? so she did just that. she made a special piece of land, kind of like a safe haven, for cats. she also made two places for cats to go when they died. starclan, where most cats go, and the dark forest, where evil and corrupt cats go. moon also made two more gods to rule these afterlifes, dustscar and kestrelshine. they're basically moon's children. word quickly spread about the land, and slowly it became occupied with cats. but fights over territory, prey, and resources broke out. so, moon created an early version of the clan system and separated everyone into 4 different clans. as time went on, the clans slowly adapted and changed, turning into the clans we know today. but as the clans were developing, so were the gods. dustscar become power hungry, and killed moon with a rock slide. kestrelshine decided to make a barrier between the dark forest and starclan, trapping dustscar in the dark forest forever. also, i would like to add even though this isn't their religion, lgbtq+ cats in the clans is still pretty new, which is why cats like cherrybloom and thistlewing have had mates of the opposite gender when they're not straight. 6-8 moons ago, lgbtq+ cats were looked down upon and sometimes even exiled. nowadays, some cats are still sort of against it, most don't care, and the rest are happy they can finally freely express themselves, so do with that what you will. remember that this is simply what the cats believe. it may not be true ;)
