entry - to be queen *this is actually the beginning of a novel i'm starting to write! and the title of the novel isn't actually 'to be queen', it's cursed powers, but cursed powers didn't exactly fit w/ what was shared There was nothing more to life than being the future queen. Look pretty, you’re going to be queen. Have a good posture, you’re going to be queen. Smile, you’re going to be queen. Pick your best friend wisely, she will always be at your side. Pick your love interest wisely, he’s going to be king. Everything I did was about being queen. It was my fate and destiny. It was what the world had planned for me. There was knocking on my bedroom door. I slowly got up from the bed, grabbing a candle to light my path. I slowly opened the door, just an inch, “Hello?” “Ness.” The voice brought a smile to my face. It belonged to Kaito, my best friend. I let him in and greeted him with a big hug. His cold gray eyes softened as he hugged me back. “Here,” he handed me white tulips as we both let go. “I was watering these earlier, and decided to give a few to everyone in the castle.” I smiled again, “Thank you.” “Of course!” Kaito grinned, shaking his black hair out of his eyes. There was silence as I headed over to my bed and sat down. “How do you feel about it?” Kaito murmured, staring into my eyes. I knew what he was talking about, “About what?” “You’re going to be queen next week,” Kaito sat down next to me, wrapping his arm around my shoulder, “you have two people to pick.” I let out a quivery sigh. “There is only one person that I want by my side at all times. My best friend… You.” Kaito laughed a bittersweet laugh. “I’m a gardener for your family. A servant.” “Yes, I know there’s no way for me to pick you as my best friend, the one to be at my side at all times. But mother has noticed it herself- you’re the only elf in the whole kingdom that I’ve actually opened up to.” Kaito smiled softly. “And who is it, that you would want to marry?” “I’ve got no idea,” I mumbled, staring at the white tulips laying in my lap. “Hey,” Kaito murmured, lifting my head up, “I’ve got an idea, but…” he trailed off, his eyes distant. “Just tell me.” “It’s been done before, so I see no reason why your mother would decline,” Kaito’s eyes wandered towards mine. We held a moment so fragile, so special in that silence, and I wanted to do nothing else but keep it, those few special seconds before the suspense dropped. “I know you hold no interest in me, I know we are just friends,” Kaito let out a sigh. I knew what he was saying, “You’re saying I pick you as my love interest? The elf to become king?” my face broke into a smile. “Only, of course, if you’re alright with it. Plus, I’d always be by your side.” “Of course!” I let out a squeal, “I’d love nothing more than to marry my best friend.”
