Three was different from all of the other dragons in her tribe. First of all, her name was Three. Even she hated her name. Second of all, her scales were totally different colors than everyone else. Her scales were a soft pink mixed with gray tints, which, again, she hated. Last, she was the YOUNGEST IN HER CLASS. Everyone else was like 8 or 9, while SHE was seven. Three was just too weird for this world. “Three, wake up,” someone whispered in her ear. Three shoved the voice aside. “Not now,” she mumbled. “Three, this is serious. Wake up!” “You must wake up! A great danger is coming!” another voice cried. “Lemon is seeking bloodshed!” the first voice wailed. “Please wake up, my precious Three!” Three blinked. No one was there. Not even a shadow. “Hello?” she called. No answer. Was she just imagining the voices? Or was someone really there? Three slowly got out of bed. She opened the door and walked out of her bedroom. Behind her, Three heard a big crash coming from her bedroom. What was that? She wondered. Three turned around to see, well, nothing. Not even her bedroom. All she could see was fire. Flames, dust, and smoke from where her bedroom once was. “W-what,” she gasped. She couldn't believe her eyes. ‘Those voices from earlier…’ Three slowly backed away from the flames and covered her mouth. Had another dragon’s flames done this? No, that's not possible. Us dragons can’t produce that big of flames. Three looked into the sky. She saw a huge dragon in the distance. ‘That looks like a Hydra.’ She thought. Hydras are twice as big as normal dragons, so it makes sense if he was. Was he the cause of this? Suddenly, he opened his mouth and a fireball thrice the size of him came straight toward her. “Crap!” she shrieked. Three shot into the air and just barely missed the ball of destruction. Her wingtip scraped against a broken house wall and she winced. Blood dripped from her wing as she crash landed onto the hot sand. ‘I need to hide.’ Three trembled. ‘But if I hide then he will find me and kill me. Where’s mommy? And Daddy? Are they safe?’ She couldn’t focus. She just woke up and was immediately put into all of this trouble. She was only seven! She can't handle this amount of stress! What should she do? Tears start running down her face as she wondered what path to take. Just as Three was about to give up, a weird figure walks up to her. “Do you need help? Are you hurt?” Three blinks. That voice sounded so familiar. Had she heard it before? The person looked different. She definitely wasn’t a dragon. Maybe a human? She didn’t have wings or a tail. So that must be it. “I've come to save you. You can’t die here. You have a whole life ahead of you. Come with me. I will take you somewhere safe.” The girl’s voice was so soothing. Three stood up and followed the girl to an open area in the sand. “Do you know where the Hybrid kingdom is?” she asked. “Y-yes, but barely,” Three answered. “Good! Fly there and ask to talk to the queen. You will be safe there. Be sure to tell her what is happening here.” “Please come with me?” Three pleaded. “I cannot,” she said. “I have to follow the Hydra that is killing everyone.” Three shot her head up. “Wait, once the Hydra is done here it is sure to head towards the Hybrid Kingdom!” she persuaded. “You do have a point there,” the girl implied. “Okay then. But will you be able to carry me with that injured wing of yours?” “I'm stronger than most of my classmates! This scratch is nothing. Now hop on!” The girl hopped on, trying to find a safe spot to rest. She ended up stopping on the lower part of her neck. She was lighter than Three had thought. “By the way, what’s your name?” the girl asked as Three leaped into the hot air. “Is Three,” she said awkwardly. “What a beautiful name!” the girl exclaimed. “You really think so?” Three beamed. “Of course! I don’t ever lie.” She smiled. “What about you? What is your name?” “Oh me?” the girl fumbles with her fingers. “It’s Harper.”
