Form a square of eight lights by lighting buttons 1,2,3,4,6,7,8 and 9. At the same time you will have to turn off button #5 - the middle button. ① ② ③ ④ ⑤ ⑥ ⑦ ⑧ ⑨ As you play Magic Square, you'll see that the nine numbered buttons affect each others' lights in certain predictable patterns. Each time you press one of these buttons, certain lights will always come on and certain lights will always go off. To form the Magic Square, you'll find it helpful to understand these patterns. Press 'H' for a Hint.
This was inspired by the Merlin console made by Parker Brothers in 1978. Thanks to Liz Arnold and Tiffany Blaszak for their published solution to the Magic Square: https://mse.redwoods.edu/darnold/math45/laproj/Fall2002/TifLiz/Presentation.pdf
