t̲h̲e̲ gr̲e̲a̲t̲ b̲l̲i̲n̲d̲i̲n̲g I stumbled, confused. Why was my sight back? Two years ago, everyone lost their sight in the Great Blinding. And now, my sight was back? I looked at the walls. ‘Don’t tell them you can see’ was written in who knows what on every wall. I would have cried out of joy if the terrifying messages weren't written everywhere I looked. The world was bland, with everyone blind we had stopped using color. "Sweetheart? Are you okay in here?" My mother cracked open the door to my room, peaking in even though she couldn't see. "Oh- yes, I’m okay! I'm okay Mom!" I looked sadly into her burned eyes, they used to be a gorgeous color of carribean blue. "Are you sure? I heard you gasp and something fall." Her brow creased with worry. "Yes, Mom. I just stubbed my toe- I'm okay." I smiled at her. "Alright, dinner is almost ready." She shut the door to my room and I let out a relieved sigh. I jumped out of my bed and ran to my bed frame, where I had hidden an old mirror when the government was collecting all of them to use for other products as they assumed no one would be able to use them. This was a gift from my great grandmother though, and I was not letting it be destroyed. I pulled it out, wiped it clean and it's turquoise and gold frame shown through. I traced my fingers through its etchings along the rim, before looking at myself in the mirror. I was surprised to find my eyes had sustained little damage, they looked perfectly normal. I set the mirror down and looked up at the message covering the room. The letters quickly changed. ‘Follow the arrows’ and there were arrows, of course. "What is going on...?" I muttered to myself. Of course I had to go, but where would it take me? Who or what was waiting for me? Could I trust these ominous messages? How long would it take to get there? What would I take for the journey?
