context: Stalin never comes to power in the USSR, some other leader comes to power, and holds a referendum in the country, leading to a greater liberalization of the country, hence turning it into The Rassarian Workers Republic. Now, if you're a history nerd like me, you'll probably say something like "bUt BrOsKiAn, YeZhOv WaS eXeCuTeD dUrInG tHe GrEaT pUrGe!1!!" And in that case, you are right, but the Great Purge was only ever began due to Stalin's paranoia or something like that, and without Stalin, there is no purge, so Yezhov survives! Without Stalin's iron fist though, many ideas would begin to bounce around the peoples heads in the union. And soon enough, wide spread protests would begin for further reforms, as well as bringing elections to the state. Many of these would be brutally suppressed by the state, in order to maintain it's power, but this would begin to spark social unrest. and so, on one fateful day, an originally peaceful protest, would soon turn violent, after they were fired upon in order to disperse them. This would spark a violent firefight later on in the city, in which the Kremlin would be stormed, and the leader killed. In place of the communist government, a new democratic one would be put in place. With this new chaotic event, stability in Rassaria would reach an all time low. The former generals of the red army would retreat to Siberia and other countries. Those in Siberia would set up their own spheres of control, increasing division and instability in the country. Soon enough, the new Rassaria would collapse, only being able to control the most western territories, with Siberia being left to the new warlords states founded by the former Red Army generals. Nikolai Yezhov and Pavel Batov would both retreat into Svenyia with hopes of reclaiming Rassaria. In this, they would both form a communist junta in Svenyia, though Yezhov would soon enough begin an assassination plan against Batov to seize full power of the junta, this of which. would be successful. Now comes the Svenyian (Broskian) civil war. Canonically, Svenyia wins, but in this case, the communists win. With the communist win, Yezhov would begin a purge of those who oppose his ideology, solidifying his absolute power in the new Zavakhnovia. What comes next idk, but Yezhov is now focused on retaking Rassaria, and is most likely the most powerful when compared to the other warlords trying to reunite Rassaria
