Hey, welcome back to Island of Secrets. :) I'm not putting it in the actual project this time, because that's kind of too much work. For this chapter, I decided to have a different POV. I get bored of doing the same character the whole time when I write, especially when the main character is stranded on a remote island. xD The first thing Lee did that morning was pick up his phone. He felt a slight glimmer of hope as he checked his messages. But no- Carla still hadn't replied. She hadn't sent him a single text since last week. When she had left for her mom's for the summer, she'd promised they would talk every day, as they had the past few years. And yet... They hadn't spoken for longer than he could remember. But maybe her phone was broken. That was most likely. Either that, or she suddenly had had enough of him? Or she was dead. He didn't see how that was logical, though, so he didn't let his mind wander down that path. The thing was, when he talked to Martin, she said that Carla hadn't spoken to her since the same day as Lee. And she hadn't been on social media at all. Clearly, her phone was broken. There was simply no other explanation... or so he thought, until Carla's mom came into his house, tears in her eyes. Lee looked at her. He hadn't seen Mrs. Davis in years, ever since she had divorced Carla's dad. She hadn't changed much- though he had never seen her crying. A shiver of pure dread went through him. "Lee," she said. "Um, hi," he squeaked. Why was she here? And shouldn't Carla be with her? There was only one clear explanation, but his mind didn't want to connect the dots. Mrs. Davis got right to it. "I went on a boat ride with Carla," she explained. "We were on the ocean. There was a storm. Our boat tipped over." Lee wanted to scream, to make her stop. To wake up and realize this was a dream. "Carla drowned." "NO," he said. "She didn't." Carla's mom shook her head. "I was rescued. Carla wasn't. There's no other explanation." As much as Lee was sure Mrs. Davis believed what she said, he didn't. He couldn't. "You... you don't know that," Lee stammered. He didn't feel like Carla was gone. Something prevented him from believing it. "Get out of my house," Lee said rudely. He didn't want to see her anymore. He wasn't going to listen to her tell him that his best friend had drowned. She was wrong, and he had to prove it. "Goodbye, Lee," said Mrs. Davis, wiping away another tear. She walked up to the door and went outside. "Bye," he whispered. Then he picked up his phone again to text Martin. 'Did Carla's mom go to your house today?' Lee asked. 'No,' she replied quickly, 'Why?' 'She told me'- he started to type, then deleted it. 'Carla'- he deleted it again. After starting and deleting at least a dozen sentences, Lee set down his phone. There was no doubt that was where Mrs. Davis was heading now, anyway. But Lee had to tell Martin that it wasn't true. It couldn't be. There was no way. It was impossible. I could feel it in my heart. Sorry if that was too short. xD Not to mention depressing.
So, yeah, I used Scratch to type the text. And the drawing was done on Kleki. Previous: https://scratch.mit.edu/projects/771615374 Next: https://scratch.mit.edu/projects/800725698 Comment: chicken noodle soup
