Q: What is a volcanic eruption? A: A hill or a mountain with an opening or vent is called a volcano. The interior of the Earth contains gases and molten rock called magma. The heat and pressure the hot magma, ash, molten rocks and gases to burst out with great force. When hot magma comes out of a volcano, it is called a volcanic eruption.
