oc i'll just sing at the center of this sleepless world and forget these feelings _____ icon use ok with credit do not repost outside of scratch without permission. art by @-707 click & drag code by @colorsnatch music (marshmary) is a mimi cover by asu character (mary) belongs to me drawn on procreate (2018 up) and firealpaca (2016, 2017) _____ hie everyone sorry for my long absence and sporadic posting schedule! new year new mary! i've never posted one of my mary pieces on this account before so i doubt anyone knows about this, but since 2016 i've been redrawing a cat i called "mary" just to show my progression in art! its funny because i always expect my art not to change that much from year to year, so this is really nice to do because it lets me know that my art is (hopefully) not stagnating :D space/arrow keys/arrow buttons to scroll, click & drag to zoom 1. 2023 - the most recent piece! the background used to have a bunch of things belonging to a random oc (a white haired man you can see in the photo frames in some years) but this year i decided to reflect more on myself rather than just an oc. therefore you have some things scattered around that kind of characterize the things i did last year! i put the manga i read in the top left corner and my favorite switch game this year (omori) in the bottom left corner just to name a few, it was fun to look back on all the things i enjoyed this past year :) 2. 2016 - the piece that started it all! i'm actually not sure why i made it in the first place since mary was never really a true character of mine, i believe i was trying to get used to drawing on firealpaca rather than scratch bitmap editor lol 3. 2017 - no clue where the massive spike in improvement came from but it was probably the fact that i was actually dipping my toes in youtube and deviantart warrior cats culture rather than just scratch, so i suppose the diverse range of inspiration really helped improve my drawings! 4. 2018 - i spent the year experimenting with shading styles and lineless, so while a few things look a bit off this piece really helped me learn more about the use of color and lighting! what helps is that mary is a completely white cat so it really forced me to go crazy with lighting in order not to make her look too flat or blend in too much with the backdrop lol 5. 2019 - the first in a series of many mary portraits with a more thought-out background! i used the year to work out my own background style since i was never confident drawing my own backgrounds before, so i'm really grateful i decided to take the plunge that year because i'm so much better with backgrounds now. practice makes perfect! 6. 2020 - i think my sense of perspective improved a lot here, most noticeably in the collar (it's not just a rectangle anymore). my linework got cleaner and less chunky too which helps the drawing look a bit more polished. not a big fan of how i did the shading on mary herself but it helped me move away from solid black shading so she doesn't look as flat compared to the previous drawing. 7. 2021 - this was the first mary i did after creating this account! you can really see how coming back to scratch not only improved my linework and lighting but also helped me develop a more unique style. there's less detail in the background in this piece but i think the dynamic lighting (although the shadow on the wall is a bit off) and my overall improvement in style makes up for it lol 8. 2022 - return to the blank white background :( this one was done in a rush (i had started in july but didnt finish everything up until literally december) so this one's a little lackluster compared to some of the earlier versions, though you can kinda see improvement in my shading style and use of blending modes! the lines are colored very slightly so nothing is ambiguous while still giving that same striking effect which i like :) thats everything up until now! it was fun to go back through my journey in art and really take a long look back on where i started and where i ended up. feel free to start redrawing your own pieces too! it's a really good way to look back on how far you've come and it's a great motivator too, just knowing that you're always improving and getting better. :) _____
