about me! (alternatively titled: lark rambles about books for most of the project and then mentions a couple other things so as not to seem one-dimensional :'D) i am realizing most everything on my account is somewhat outdated, because i've been on this site for over three years (a terrifying thought). with that in mind, here is a general update on myself and my interests, because i'm trying to be social this upcoming swc season, and that's always easier if i've got things in common with the person i'm talking to :'D so- if we share an interest, please don't hesitate to start a conversation with me about it! (also this is kinda long and rambley, feel free to skip to the fast facts) - books <3 i love them. goodreads is my most active social media platform, and approximately half of my limited free time is spent reading - books i love include! - the haunting of hill house, by shirley jackson. i adore gothic fiction and creepy houses and lesbian undertones, and this book made me cry thrice. it's in my top three favorites and i'll happily discuss it with anyone. - the illustrated man, by ray bradbury. his short stories are amazing, and one of them literally inspired elton john's rocket man. isn't that epic?! they're bizarre and wonderful, as is the writing. - rebecca, by daphne du maurier. this was probably my first real introduction to gothic classics and i haven't looked back since. the symbolism! and manderley! and the unnamed narrator! <3 -twelfth night, by shakespeare (but i read the sparknotes edition, because i am but a flawed twenty-first century gal). i love olivia and viola as epic independent characters, and feste the fool, and the confusion and mishaps and engaging chaos of the plot. the ending, with its conviently sorted straight relationships, is not my favorite, but the journey was great. -heartstopper, volumes 1-4, by alice oseman. for as much as i'd like to pretend to be a broody dark academia gothic heroine, i do indeed have a heart, and these books make me happy. top tier representation, because they're both adorable and important (nellie!!!!) -emily dickinson poetry. because it hits a chord somewhere, almost always. i'm currently writing an english paper on her, and here's a quote from one of her letters that i love: "i have dared to do strange things-- bold things, and asked no advice from any. and life has had an aim, and the world has been too precious." but i have interests besides books, though they are few! - i like writing! i've been in every swceason since july of 2020, and it's definitely motivated me as a writer - cabins i've been in: - mythology, july 2020 - horror, nov 2020 - sci-fi, march 2021 - sci-fi, july 2021 (i was a co-leader!) - contemporary, nov 2021 - adventure, march 2022 - hi-fi, july 2022 - poetry, nov 2022 - hi-fi, march 2023 - folklore, july 2023 (current!) - i like flower symbolism! i just like the idea that flowers stand for more than their surface value, and could be used to convey meanings. if a flower is mentioned in a book i will most definitely google what it represents. i also like pressing and picking actual flowers, my personal favorites are probably marigolds and violets? - my current video game of choice is splatoon 3, though i head back to my animal crossing island every once in a while! i main the splat roller, but i only got it this past december, so i'm not quite great at anything yet lol - i play the trombone and love it. other instruments have their moments and their melodies, but they'll never have as great glissandos :'D
