Backstory Freebots are robots that were created on the planet Koa, named after a Space Marine's friend, who was a Tau. That same Space Marine was named Yavin. Yavin was a less loyal soldier in the Imperium of Man. He saw that it was idiotic that they have to destroy all alien races till only man stands. He also was more into engineering but was denied to do so by the Imperium. He and his ship would enter the Realm of Tzeetch on a chase after a Tau battleship. When the ships crashed, the opposing sides fought on the ground in which their battle would have a third faction of Horrors of Tzeetch. After the battle, Yavin would meet his soon to be friend Koa, a Tau who was badly injured from an explosion, up to the point that his legs were gone. Rather than what a Space Marine would normally do, he brought him along believing that he and Koa would have a better chance of surviving with each other. And this would prove to be true. Despite going into one of Tzeetch's Champion's library, they would find a map out of Tzeetch's realm and gather a few books on the Chaos Gods themselves. It should be noted that the two's destination was to go to the Tau home planet, where Koa would be welcomed and could defend his friend. Whereas if they went to Yavin's planet he would be called a Heretic and both would be killed on the spot. Using the warp to get to their destination they found themselves in a warp storm where Yavin was attacked by one of the warp creatures and trying to save him, Koa died from the deamon. The warp storm got them off course and they crash landed on an unknown planet. The planet was an arctic planet but it looked like a civilization had existed there. Yavin buried his friend in the snow and was basically ready to die. To him Koa felt like the only true brother to him then any other of his fellow Marines. But then he thought of something. He dug his friend up and took out his brain and put it into a container. He would begin to build his friend a body. Specifically a robot body. This is where he would remake his friend. But he stopped. He thought that his friend wouldn't want to live forever. He would want to rest and join what his friend called the greater good. Instead, he would copy his brain waves, this would give his creation Koa's personality but wouldn't make it the same person as Koa and wouldn't know about the Tau's life. He made his program to simply "live free". Hence why they call themselves Freebots. With help of this Freebot and others, Yavin would treat them like his children. He would teach them the ways of the Imperium, the Tau and even teach them about some of the ways of the Chaos Gods. He also taught them how to fight(specifically with a gun) and taught them engineering. Engineering was and would be a basic knowledge. Time Periods During the first century, when Freebots weren't being taught by Yavin(who they called the Maker) or recharging, they often were making or playing games. From making vehicles to making video games to making even arena-like fights. These fights were done with remote control robots controlled by the Freebots called Avatars. Though it wasn't only enjoyment for the Freebots. Exploring the planet, the Freebots and Yavin found bodies of Space Marines, Tau and Orks as well as evidence of deamons. This planet was theorized to be a colonization site where the Imperium, Tau and Orks fought over but they don't know why there were any deamons. This, with the Freebots already having prior knowledge of these factions and them already making machines of war in any case, they made blueprints to create rings that would hide and defend the planet, however it wouldn't be fully built until the 6th century.(Continued below)
The 2nd century was a time of technological advancement and sorrow. During this time they had improved their Avatars, from using simple cables to link connection to the Freebot, they used a wireless connection for better maneuverability, they began researching Nanotechnology and they began to build spaceships. And a type of religion was beginning to take rise. From the maker’s teachings on Nurgle and the greater good, this religion, The Supreme Good, was mainly about doing good with whatever time has left for a Freebot. Most of the Freebots that were created by the maker had still been around during this time and they had no real average deceasement age. So as long as the Freebot isn't affected by outside forces it wouldn’t decease. This movement was meant to help the idea of righteousness and increase the spread of the idea of respecting alien races. Though that ideal was already embedded in Freebot culture, it was heightened by the Supreme Good. The movement became so big the Supreme Good would create the first wonder in Freebot history, the Temple of the Makers, where Koa and Yavin would be buried. The Maker, in his final days, saw them as a threat and a good thing. He saw that they could cause a fracture in the still united Freebot society. So his last words were “Live free and United.”. They stayed united until the 8th century. From then to the 8th century nothing really happened. They kept making technological advancements(Nanobots(300s) and Orbital weapons(400s)) and kept making more and more Freebots. The factories making them didn’t really come up until the late 2nd century. The method of making these other Freebots was the same method the Maker used to make the Freebots but his creations took it a step further. When the Maker died, the Freebot took his brain and made Freebots using both Koa’s brain and Yavin’s. They also made many other options of starting personalities, via mixing the two’s brain waves. These factories often made other uses of entertainment. Their economy was digital money, with a computer to keep the economy from inflating or deflating. Their military is filled with Avatars as their first offense or defense. These Avatars are known to act less like disciplined warriors and more like people enjoying a game together(like https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hc62H_sT6rw&t=895s). This is due to them being near invincible due to the Nanobots constantly rebuilding the Freebot’s Avatar and due to the Freebot being in no real danger, being able to control the Avatar from the farthest reaches of the galaxy. This, while being overpowered, does have its drawbacks, for example these Avatars have been seen to often friendly fire one another, both purposefully and not purposely, or due to the fact the the Avatars can’t die and see fighting more like a game, there would and had been times where the two sides didn’t fight and instead…did anything but fight. If sending these Avatars don’t do anything, the military itself will come. Their military is technologically advanced however they are not as advanced as the Necrons. Their decisions are done by a President that the Freebots call the Masterboard. Unlike the Tau, the Freebots are capitalists and give their citizens a multitude of rights, like freedom of speech and religion, and don’t have a caste system. The only main event that happened to the Freebots was the creation of the Rings around their planet in the 6th century. But during the 800s, their time to prepare for the universe they were created in was over. When they were finally discovered by an Imperium colonization team…when they crashed into the Rings, news quickly spread throughout the galaxy. Knowing that the other races would soon know of their existence, they revealed themselves, turning off the Rings. Immediately, the Freebots had made good relations with the Tau and Eldar. They also help the Eldar repel any Imperium or Dark Eldar attacks. They also made treaties with the Orks and Khorne about their nanotech, these treaties benefiting them rather than the Freebots.
