I may be a new scratcher. I may not have been on Scratch in 2019. But I do know this: Trying to bring old Scratch back won't work. It's most likely too late. It's 2023, four years after the crash and burn of Scratch. So let's face it: Old Scratch isn't coming back. I've only just heard about old Scratch, and from what I've read, it was glorious. Amazing, a place for coders and artists alike to meet and share their talents with the world. But in 2020, I assume that people decided that they needed fame. Friends weren't enough for some people. They had to amass followers, perhaps through tricks, cheating, and advertising. F4f (Follow 4 follow) became a big thing. Lots of amazing people left. Hey, I get it. I want to be known too. But f4f isn't the way to do it. So I have a proposal. Old scratchers and new scratchers alike, we can make our world glorious again, through this: We rebuild. After the dinosaurs went extinct, the world remade itself. Even now, the world is changing. Global warming is heating our planet, and the crash and burn of Earth is coming. But since Scratch's crash and burn has already happened, we need to remake it, better than it was before, so that we don't keep driving down, down, down, into the deep pit of awfulness. We can steer it back up, through our own little ways. It doesn't have to be big, like petitioning for f4f to be banned (although someone does need to do that). It can be small, like giving an underrated artist an unexpected follow. It can be kind. It doesn't need to change the world. It just needs to be the first step in a new day. So I will close with this. I know some of you are going to tell me I got some stuff wrong, that you've been trying to do this for years. But please understand that I've felt compelled to write this on a whim. And to all you kind people out there, heed my message and remix this. Show it to your Scratch friends, to your followers, to everyone you know who can make a difference. And to lighten things up, here's a new tag: #rebuildourworld Edit (4/12/23): This is a getting a bit of attention- I'm probably not going to reply to comments- but feel free to leave your opinions!
