Hatcher Chapter 0 exercise 6 asks to show facts about a specifically constructed topological shape. The shape is that of a main line, where each segment of the line has rays attached to it, one for each rational number. An approximation of the line is shown here, as well as an example of a weak deformation contraction of the shape to the line. Notably, the main line must also shift, thus, there is no true deformation retraction to the line.
