ok listen- NOT ALL ASIANS ARE THE SAME! i am korean + chinese, and that is completely different from, say, japanese. so one of my classmates came up to me and said "konnichiwa", and i tried to POLITELY explain that konnichiwa is in japanese, and instead, to someone of my race, you would say "annyeonghaseyo" or "néih hó". he proceeded to ROLL HIS EYES at me and say, "ok whatever. and anyway, what is *mocking voice* nay how?" when i told him that is how to say hello in chinese, he said, "no. it's ni hao. you're wrong." uhm... sorry? so i had to explain to him that cantonese is different from mandarin!! i swear, i spent like five minutes trying to explain this to him, and he just DIDNT UNDERSTAND. what is there to not understand about this? like, he thought that asia was a country and all asians were the same and spoke the same language. actually, often times, people speak so many different languages WITHIN ONE country. take india, for example. but asians aren't all the same. there are so so SO many countries in asia, all with different languages and cultures and everyone in each country looks different. for example, you can't say that german people, swedish people, and english people are the same. sure, they are all european, but they are still german, swedish, and english! like WHAT DOES THIS KID NOT UNDERSTAND ABOUT THIS- oh my gosh this literally annoyed the heck out of me. #stopasianhate. love, mila
