I found my old Oc, Orange, in my sketchbook yesterday and I wanted to make a few changes to her design. Firstly, my art style has changed dramatically this last year, so it's good that I got a redraw in anyways. It's always good to go back and see how far you have come from your old art or writing. The way I used to draw in middle school is nothing like how I draw in high school. That was centuries ago! Your art can only ever improve and grow, not vice versa. When you go back and look at your old mistakes and art, you feel more confident with your improvement and can laugh and cry over the horrendous ugliness of your old trashy art. Secondly, I decided to make a few dramatic changes. For example, I made her skin a much darker shade. Looking back at my old drawing made me realise how much attention is drawn to her hair and eyes and not so much to anything else. I themed her with the color Orange so the eyes, hair, and clothes are all orange based. When I look at the skin, it's more of a yellowish color. I also made the hair a lighter shade so it didn't contrast well with the light skin. If the skin had a more pinkish tint to it then it would be okay, but I also wanted to add a bit more diversity into my old Oc's. Considering that my other two Oc's, Red and Yellow, both had the same pale yellow skin, I wanted to change that. I ended up selecting the same orange I used for the hair, but darling it to a brown color. Then I grabbed a maroon color for the shadows on the face and neck. I think that really centered more attention on her face and less to her bulgy hair. Thirdly, I simplified the design a bit while making it more complex. I took out the wide ponytail-thing and decreased the volume of Oranges hair.... a lot. I also wanted to draw some attention away from her bug-eyes, so I basically just made them black. At the same time, I gave her a proper nose, eyebrows, strands of hair for more texture, curves, and lips. Oh, and shoulders. Lastly, take in mind that both of these drawings were made on scratch, so the quality and art is basically trash. Maybe one day I can do an actual Oc draw to show how I would do this, but more complicated. If you know what I mean. I hope this was helpful to you guys. Have a great day and remember to smile :) All art is by me : @Silent_Thought enjoy
