Panic all over the news. Fires in Australia, droughts in Africa, seas rising everywhere. Ice melting - since when was it more than fifteen degrees in the Antarctic? That's the kind of temperate we get here! Headlines screaming out - BREAKING NEWS, BREAKING NEWS - important articles you simply must read. Crops failing, animals dying, people suffering - (breaking news, breaking news) - mass extinction, unprecedented, forecasting - (breaking news, breaking news) - temperatures set to rise in the future - (breaking, breaking) - irreversible climate catastrophe - (news, news.) News. Old news. People frown and shake their heads ("Oh what a shame, we must do something!") and then go and have a hot shower and sit in a room with the lights on and plug in their device and forget all about it. The next day, the articles have vanished, only accessible by the search engine. The latest celebrity scandal (BREAKING NEWS!) is all over the front page and people read it and the guilt they feel lessens. That's if they ever felt any in the first place. Because after all if the climate crisis was a serious problem surely everyone would be talking about it? Surely it'd be all over the news? But, of course, it isn't.
Was feeling motivated to write a poem, and I wrote this! The subject of the poem has been bothering me for a while and it felt good to get it out. The environment is one of my favourite things to write poems about, so expect to see a lot of environment-related poems in the future. CREDITS Poem by me, @-Loyalfeather.
