fun fact: you don't have to commit to one action and end your turn. you can follow through an attack. for example, instead of ending your turn just dashing offscreen, you could have the camera cut back to the enemy, and show your character appearing and attacking. dont be afraid to counterattack immediately after receiving an attack. in fact, as the saying goes, "talk is cheap", which is why good fight sequences try to avoid a lot of talking in favor of the fight itself.
