Knightly walked through the maze like caverns, the family of dragons nipping at his heals. He followed the sound of whispered voices, hunting for their source. The voices grew louder, before coming completely to a stop. Knightly listened for the sound of a breath or heart beat. A consistent loud, fast rhythm echoed in his ears, to soft to be heard by a human. Onyx heard unfamiliar foot steps coming his way, too quiet for his companion to hear. Onyx could also hear his heart thundering in his chest. Onyx bolted for an escape route, something, anything, to keep him from being discovered. He dashed through a tunnel leading out side, leaving the far less nimble Lake behind. Lake watched his new assistant sprint away, startled like a rabbit. What a queer boy, Lake thought tenderly, a smile creeping across his lips. He suddenly became aware of someone behind him. "What are you doing here? Are you a dragon poacher?" The newcomer growled. Lake turned to the boy. "I'm a researcher. I was just checking in on these dragons here. I have no connection with Fragile Flowers, and barely stand most other inhabitants of Tooth and Claw," Lake said, looking at the young humanoid before him. The youth was dressed in a loose baby-blue tunic over chainmail. He carried a worn looking sword, it's blade dull and it's hilt worn to fit the creases of the young man's hand. The boy seemed satisfied with Lakes answer and sheathed his blade. "I, Knightly Boldheart, am the self proclaimed protector of these beautiful creatures before you," Knightly said, gesturing to the dragons curled up at his feet, "If I find you've hurt so much as one hair in their mains, you will find yourself before the Great Lord's of life and death." Lake smiled what he hoped was a reassuring smile, "No need to send me to meet my maker. I'll be out of your hair in just a moment." He bowed and then turned to find Onyx. Onyx had heard the whole exchange. That Knightly fellow seemed like an interesting character. He stood up for what he believed in, that was for sure.
