Happy Black History Month! + Happy Women's History Month! Florence Price was a female African-American composer who lived from 1887-1953. She loved music from a young age; she could play piano by four and published her first piece by 11. Her most famous piece, Symphony No.1 in E minor, was the first ever by an African-American woman to be performed by a major orchestra. Most of her work went unfortunately unrecognized during her lifetime, but has since been rediscovered and many orchestras today play and appreciate her music.
