Robbie sat beneath a tree by herself, her face stiff and her eyes red. Her cheeks were damp with tears, and her hair was messy and covered in twigs and leaves. She hiccuped, wiping her nose with her arm. Robbie softly began to sob again, burying her face in her knees. She grabbed a handful of dirt and threw it, letting out an angry scream, which was followed with more sobs. She wanted everyone gone. Even herself. This earth was cruel. It stole something very close to her, and she grieved. Robbie could feel her heart turn to a black stone and her soul wither into dust. Before, she wanted everything. Now she only wanted her brother. But he was gone. He was buried in the earth along with many others. Robbie hadn't eaten, drank, or slept since his death. She only cried alone. She barely moved at all. She would lock the door and cry in her closet. She was never so lonely. Robbie laid down on the soft pine needles below the tree. She felt weak, her head spinning. Robbie was about to close her eyes when she heard footsteps. She sat up, her face turning from sad to anger. "Who's there?" Robbie yelled, her voice raspy. "H-hello?" A voice answered back. Robbie scowled. She wasn't alone. And she hated it. "Go away!" Robbie yelled, laying back down. "I heard crying... was it you?" The voice called. "Why do you care?" Robbie hissed through gritted teeth. "Go. Away!" A pale, blonde headed girl walked from behind a tree, her hair up in a long, tight ponytail. Her bangs dangled right above her thick rimmed glasses, which she adjusted quickly. "Why are you laying on the floor?" She asked. Robbie rolled over. "...Will you at least answer me?" The girl asked, her voice sad. Robbie sat up and turned, her glare fixated on the girl. "No." She replied firmly. "Why?" Robbie sat there, her nose scrunching up. She didn't like this girl. "Because I said so." "Well I don't have to do what you say." Robbie growled under her breath. This girl and her soft tone was getting into her skin. "Yes you do," Robbie replied stubbornly. "Nope." The girl said. Robbie stood up and walked away. "Hey wait!" The girl called. Robbie ignored her. "What's your name?" Robbie turned. "...Robbie..." The girl smiled. "I'm Sophie!" she held out a hand. Robbie stared at it, hesitating. She slowly reached hers out, shaking Sophie's hand. Her hand was warm and soft to the touch. Robbie's hand was rough and cold. "Wanna be friends...?" Sophie asked quietly. Robbie took her hand and put it in her pocket. She looked down at her feet, and then at Sophie. "...Sure..." She muttered. Sophie smiled and hugged Robbie. Robbie flinched, but eventually hugged Sophie back. The two girls broke apart, exchanging small smiles on their faces. Together they began to walk through the woods, talking and laughing. Soon, Robbie became used to not being alone. Maybe having one friend wouldn't be so bad after all... [END]
