Who knew that the pain came after, ripping through a heart like a tsunami would come crashing down. Flooding over everything. Who knew that a broken promise and a broken heart could cause so much pain. Who knew that a few wires and one night could change everything. Brook knew. They knew this now. They knew that they had broken a promise. And that there wasn’t anything they could do to fix it. Brook had to live with the fact that they had failed. Failed to keep their promise. But at least it had been them. Not anyone else. This thought circled in Brook's mind, over and over and over. All they could do was think. And that may have been the first time they had stopped to think. "If they take anyone else... especially... I'll find them." Brook whispered in their cold black unconsciousness. "I'll find my way back. That is my one promise that won't be broken." Brook would not let their death stop them. No matter what, Brook would find their way. If they broke another promise though.... Then it would all be their fault. Not that it wasn't their fault. All of it was their fault. Maybe if they had just been more careful... But, no. No, no no. There was nothing they could have done. They had been just as helpless as all those people had seemed back home. If.... if it was even a home to Brook anymore. The home that seemed decades away, didn't seem like a home anymore.
