Hi everyone! Today I'm going to be sharing something that really frustrates me on scratch, and how you can avoid it. Fonts like this- ᵗʰⁱˢ t̶h̶i̶s̶ t̷h̷i̷s̷ тнιѕ and more may look really cool on your profile, but they make it really tough to read for people using screen-readers. I found this quote that explains it quite well- "This is the case even if you’re using Unicode characters that ‘look’ like standard text. While a sighted user can see a stylised “t”, a screen reader may read out “mathematical sans-serif script t”. This means that even a short word can take a long time for screen reader users to process." I'll link the article below so you can read it, I found it helpful to provide another perspective. All the fancy symbols the aesthetic community uses already makes scratch rather inaccessible for people who have trouble reading or need a screen reader. Adding fancy fonts only makes it worse. I will admit, I have used these fonts in descriptions before. I'm not saying you have to go back and completely redo all of your old descriptions, (it would be great if you would though!) but please be aware when writing your next one. This also applies to writing your text L1K3 TH1S. For those who rely on programs like Voiceover to read websites, it renders your profile or projects completely unreadable. Please take this into account, and review your profile/projects to make sure they are accessible to everybody.
