"How are you?" Tiffany jiggled her leg up and down. "Nervous. Do you think Harper's going to be okay? She seemed really out of it. And the place she was shot..." "Tracy didn't strike anything vital," Beatrix assured her. "Apparently, she isn't a good aimer." Tiffany sighed. "I can't help but feel like this is my fault, though. I should have--" "Should have what? Climbed up the catwalk quick enough? Somehow shot the gun out of her hands? There wasn't anything you could have done. Neither could I have. Plus, she's still alive, and the doctors say that she should heal up nicely," Bex told her. "But what about the risk of infection?" "She shouldn't get any infections if she's careful and doesn't move often," Beatrix said assuringly. "All we have to do now is sit back and wait." Tiffany sighed, opening her fist to reveal the pendant Harper had thrown to her when Daniel had came into the picture, staring at the pretty necklace. It must've been given to Harper when she was just a little girl. Tiffany wondered why the Helexine member who had grabbed her hadn't stolen it from her. Surely he would've checked her down to make sure she didn't have anything valuable on her. Unless.... "Oh no," Tiffany said, jumping to her feet. Beatrix and Bex exchanged a look. "What?" Bex asked her, frowning. "What's wrong now?" Tiffany paced around in front of the bench, stopping to look down at the pendant. "Oh, no, no, no, no." "What?!" both Beatrix and Bex exclaimed, and Beatrix added, "I swear, Tiffany, I think that this impatience is going to k!ll me." "Don't you see?!" Tiffany exclaimed, spinning around to face them both. "When they kidnapped Harper, they had a chance to take the necklace that they had been looking for for so long! And yesterday in that factory, they could have chased us and grabbed the pendant! They could have kidnapped Harper, too! But they didn't." Bex and Beatrix looked at each other nervously, probably starting to get an idea of where Tiffany was going with this. "They faked wanting the pendant," Tiffany said, tearing her hands through her curly hair. "They set it up to make us think that the stupid necklace and Harper were their goals. But it isn't. She isn't. Ugh, I should've realized sooner that their biggest goall wasn't coming after some stupid pendant!" Beatrix swallowed nervously. "But...if they don't want the pendant, then what do they want?" "I don't know. That's the thing. /I don't know./ But maybe Harper does." "Um, Harper, as in the Harper who is still recovering from a gunwound, and is probably still knocked out?" Bex asked, raising her eyebrows. "Knowing Harper, I think she'll be up by now," Tiffany replied, heading down the hall and straight to the hospital wing, opening the doors and heading to the room Harper was currently in. Sure enough, when she opened the door, Harper was sitting down on her bed, staring directly at her. "We have to talk," she said. ˜”*°•.˜”*°• Start of chapter •°*”˜.•°*”˜
